I recently read that Ray Davies wrote Dandy about Brian? Always knew the song via Herman's Hermits. Brian was the founding member of the 27 club.

Robert Johnson was 27 when he died.

Yes but he's not a member of the club. Brian started the club.

Robert started the club, of course.

Robert started the club, of course.

But Brian was the second member....you can't have a club of only one person, ergo Brian started the club when he joined.

Someone could have founded the club without dying?

Eddie Cochran, 21. But we're talking 27 here - not "25 or under"!
And what's the idea of mentioning Cantrell? Miles of people have died young
and we don't need to list them all here, do we.

I recently read that Ray Davies wrote Dandy about Brian? Always knew the song via Herman's Hermits. Brian was the founding member of the 27 club.

In the song, songwriter Ray Davies skewered the would-be master lover of the title. Davies sings about how the dandy is "chasing all the girls" and how the girls "can't resist [the dandy's] smile." However, he warns the dandy that "when [he's] old and gray, [he'll] will remember what they said: that two girls are too many, three's a crowd and four you're dead!" Still, the singer feels sympathy for the dandy, saying "Dandy, you're all right."

There is speculation that Davies wrote the song in reference to the wild lifestyle of his younger brother, Kinks guitarist Dave Davies.

On the subject of ages and death, anyone remember the excellent RS 1971 Keith interview.
"Thirty seems like a real trip to me. And I know 33 is a real trip:33 is a year.
(When Christ was crucified).
Everybody who reaches 33 goes through some weird things.

Litle did Keith know at the time, but on both sides of reaching 33 Keith would have to cope with the death of his third child, and then within the same 12 month period he got busted in Toronto which could have put him away for a long time.
