4) Thank God they never tried hip-hop or electric music. Whatever you think about that music, it would be a disaster for the Stones.

Yes, yes, yes indeed... there is a small percentage that do.
That would be me!

All of the above is very true, although I do think it's unfair to omit MT from discussing why Sticky Fingers, GYYYO and Exile are so good (the big four concept aside). Likewise his role in making GHS and IORR much better than they otherwise would have been.

I have listened to just about everything Keith has played, and this guitar work on Blues in the Morning in unbelievable. The riffs are as crisp as ever. Chuck Berry should be proud.
If he could just set a date for a Stones session, I would be very happy.

I would give anything to hear Mick try to rap. Then I would shoot myself.

Thanks man! I'm hearing some real Jeff Beck influences in there. Only 364 Views?! Something wrong with this world when some of these pop stars have hundreds of millions and this gets 364.
Too be fair to Keith and keep somewhat on topic I think Taylor's playing has probably slipped some too.

Isn't Memo From Turner basically a rap song? Or at least the bridge of ASMB?

I see what you're getting at, but I wouldn't call Memo From Turner rap. It seems far too slow-paced and melodic to me, but I'm hardly an expert. I don't think the genre even existed back then, though, so if nothing else I'm technically correct.
I'll also have to admit that I'm not very knowledgeable concerning the Stones' material since Wyman left the band. With the exception of Doom and Gloom, I haven't felt the need to listen to any of more than once. I guess you're right about ASMB, although that part of the song is pretty short. I'll wait to hear Mick rap his way through a full song before pulling the trigger.

I am listening to Mick Taylor's Blues in the Morning now. Like many other guitarists, he is suffering from the Too Many Notes Per Second Blues. Mick is a great guitarist, but only when he is accompanying Keith.
