OT: Rugby World Cup

Well, we've had some great games already. Obviously the stars of the first couple of days are Japan - their victory over SA has really set the tournament alight. A mention must also go to Georgia who had a great victory over Tonga, but that was a bit overshadowed by Japan. Been a great atmosphere in Cardiff - went to the Uruguay game yesterday and was encouraging to see so many Uruguayan supporters there. It's all good for the future of the game.

We've got the full effect here in Twickenham with hours of road closures and disruption on match days, but yes, it's a nice atmosphere. We've got the flags of all the competing nations hung out along the street where I work: ironically, our office has an England flag although my boss is a dedicated Wales supporter.

I was in a pub in Epsom having a chat at the time, and an almighty cheer rang out. Wondered what it was, and TV had the match on and just finished.
One or two Japanese fans in pub, but most rugby fans just happy South Africa lost.

South Africa should still finish top of their pool. Can't wait to see the Wallabies begin their campaign against the Fijians, it will be interesting to see how they back up from playing England last Friday. England and Wales should be a classic next weekend.

Also great to hear Start Me Up being played before every game!

Still can't believe that Japan defeated South Africa. It's almost a revolution !
I also was impressed by Argentina even if they finally lost against New Zealand.

People here in Japan, when asked in a survey what they thought of Japan's victory , answered
"as if Japanese football team beat Brazil, Germany and Spain in the world cup soccer,"
or "as if Taylor Swift won against Alexander Karelin in the wrestling match."
Great upset!

It'll be interesting to see how they do against Scotland tomorrow after such a short turnaround.

Japan will have it tougher from now on because nobody will underestimate them any more.

Massive day! Interesting to see how South Africa responds against Samoa.

And then possibly the biggest pool game in the competitions history with England playing Wales, can't wait!

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd,
Tros ryddid gollasant eu gwaed.

Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r heniaith barhau.

Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd,
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i'm golwg sydd hardd;
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si
Ei nentydd, afonydd, i mi.

Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad dan ei droed,
Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ag erioed,
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.

Great stuff. Second-best game of the tournament, though it looked like an episode of ER at times. Maybe the English fans should learn more than 1 song?

Gusty win from Wales, this make the 'pool of death' very interesting. Really fearing an English backlash next weekend.

Go the Wallabies!

Aussies have now beaten Uruguay so the England-Australia match next weekend will be a real nail biter - elimination for England if they lose (effectively).
