A question regarding different "Sweet Summer Sun" audio releases
Posted by: vudicus ()
Date: September 17, 2015 20:35

Am I right in thinking the audio download version differs from the DVD/Bluray release in that some tracks were from different nights?

Am I also right in thinking there was a version with "Beast of Burden" which wasn't on other versions?

I'm looking to put everything available into a single compilation (with lossless audio) and don't know what sources I need.

Any help would be much appreciated.

And there are different sound mixes as well. RT has a totally different mix on the dvd, for instance.

Am I also right in thinking there was a version with "Beast of Burden" which wasn't on other versions?

It was part of Apple's free '12 Days of Gifts' iTunes-giveaway for Christmas 2013 which concluded on January 6, 2014 with a collection of Rolling Stones tracks recorded live in Hyde Park:

- Beast of Burden, London, England, July 6, 2013
- Tumbling Dice, London, England, July 6, 2013
- Doom and Gloom, London, England, July 6, 2013

Also download version and cd version both contain the same songs from the same nights. However the sound mix is different. Download version is much rawer.

Midnight rambler on the DVD version is fantastic, I think that it is better than the cds one.

Re-listening to the download version lately and I have to say I thought it sounded great. As Adams said above, download version is much 'rawer' - it does sound very in-your-face and rocking.

I must look out for the Japanese 3 song bonus CD.

I can't stand the sound of the CD and the download version. The only sound that I like is the Blu Ray (haven't heard the DVD) version. It kicks ass.

I hope to order the DVD version from Ward Records Japan, with the bonus 3-track CD.

Does anyone know if BluRay's are like DVD's and multi-region? DVD's from USA or Japan play on my DVD player, I'm hoping BluRay will be the same.

As I recall it, the three track bonus disc was free if you had bought the Deluxe Sweet Summer Sun from Ward. You also needed a Japanese address in order to get the bonus disc. I have no idea if it's still available.

I think it is; I visited Ward Records website today and I am fairly sure that 3-track bonus CD still available. I have a Japanese address to get it sent to, so fingers crossed...

IF BluRays are multi-region, I'll go for it!

the bonus tracks that wren't on the original album do they fade out at all? i was thinking if they don't fade out at the end maybe i could add them into the album where they originally appeared on the setlist

I think it was multiregion however I can't find any info on my copy.
Please note that the 3 song bonus disc is an additional item.
However the Japanese set was originally, maybe still is a 4 disc item even without the mentioned cd. It was 1 BR, 2 CDs of SSS and an additional CD with one song: Happy

If you are not bothered about the extra Japanese tracks you can get the version below from amazon.co.uk for £30.00 to £40.00, which is considerably below the original RRP.

Cheers,

The dates belong to the audio of the songs. The video is always a mixture as you can see on Keith's bandana :-)

I do wish Ward's website was a bit easier to maneuver/read for us non-Japanese reading folks smiling smiley

And Ward does not ship outside of Japan. Somewhere on here I thought I'd read that they now were. They are not. I tried ordering the Checker Lounge set straight from them, but it got cancelled.
