I still think "Angie" is a very good song.

Yes, it's been overplayed over the years.
Sometimes just listening to a different version, such as a live track, gives me a new
take on it.

cheers,
angee

I don't think it's been overplayed live, at least it certainly wasn't on these last few tours. I love the song, but I usually only play it when I'm by myself. The kids complain that it's too depressing.
Gawd Mahm...turn that off! grinning smiley

Yes, I meant on the radio way back when, should have specified more clearly...

Huh, the lyrics are on the down side, or the realistic side, no question. I find
them very sweet, considering the failed romance. Appreciation of the words
may come with experience.

I've always appreciated it lyrically and musically. Perhaps it hasn't aged as well as a ballad like wild horses. Have there ever been any good covers of Angie?
Probably need to move this convo to track talks...sorry Rene. smiling smiley

I saw an IORRangutan in a Clint Eastwood comedy.

There is too little love for Down In The Hole here! It's a headscratcher why this heartfelt and great blues tune isn't more appreciated, imo.

Kind of similar to overrated/underrated, I'll admit. There are the usual suspects like Streets of Love or Indian Girl, where I see some reasoning is involved, even if I disagree, but sometimes the musical tastes within the Stones canon by the folks here leave me scratching my head. I'll confine myself to songs done by the current band lineup (Black and Blue to now) to minimize "personnel selection bias".

Shamed for no good reason:

Fool to Cry
Lies
Hot Stuff
Infamy
Shattered
Brand New Car
Hang Fire
She Saw Me Coming

Inexplicably Put on a Pedestal:

Terrifying
Harlem Shuffle
Sex Drive
This Place is Empty
Rain Fall Down
Laugh, I Nearly Died

I agree about the shamed ones. However, I think I'm one of the very few here who loves Terrifying smiling smiley

And what's not to like with This Place Is Empty?

OK, agree with your assertion on Terrifying Dandy, but seriously you must already know the "bare your breasts and make me feel at home" line is hurlworthy enough to ruin the entire song.

I don't want to cast aspersions, just stating the facts.

How can bare breast be hurlworthy?? Each to their own...

breasts are fine, great even. reflections of a drooling old man make it a bit less comfortable for me anyway.

I've always liked Ronnie's solo on it when they do it live but when I heard the Brussels Affair one, it was much better and an improvement of at least 189% over the studio version.

You're supposed to be that drooling old man, if you listen more closely to the music..

Don't matter treacles, they all feel the same at the end of a long day...just do as Keith requests and you'll feel a lot better. Repeat the phrase ten times a day until it doesn't bother you anymore. That's the only way to get over a phobia. cool smiley

I've tried and tried latebloomer, but I still find the thought of Keith's man boobs a bit disturbing.
