The people who brag about standing make my point

It is not rock and roll or hip to be a rude ass. Yes at times I have peed during keef's set and I have also done it during other points in the show. Lastly I do live in suburbia and I am rich. I became successful due to my intelect and the fact I have manners which many of the standing losers with menial jobs do not.

He's the kind of jerk who'll end up crying about missing teeth if he gives me any lip at a concert...he can bank on it! I'm friendly to folks around me, make friends usually, have a blast...I just don't sit down for some one else's benefit. I paid my ticket & I'll enjoy the concert as I like...not as some over the hill pathetic suburban loser wants.

People who sit politely at a Stones concert are a complete mystery to me. I can see sitting for Tony Bennett or at an opera, but from the moment the Stones hit the stage their energy absolutely requires that you get up, stay up, and shake your ass. Did the sitters come to the concert to relax and get off their tired feet for two hours or so? They ought to have stayed home and taken a bath if they want to rest.

I'm there to boogie, scream, sweat and rock! The only reason there are seats at a rock concert is because the venues are used for sports and other events. If they were dedicated to rock concerts only, they'd be just huge dance halls with NO seats!!!

For me, I've paid for my seat AND the ground in front of it...I'm getting up and dancing, if the person behind me doesn't like it...go home!!!

So wealth and intellect go together...hmmmmm...and humility, no doubt...

The only time I have a problem is when EVERYONE else practically is sitting - be it a slow number or whatever - and some drunk inconsiderate a**hole insists on standing right in front of me slobbering all over his girlfriends neck. I will sometimes politely ask him to sit the f**k down... and you know what usually happens? The guy's girlfriend will tell him he's being a dick, and by the end of the show he's apologized and we're buddies! So all the penis posturing about being a big man Stones fan and you're going to do whatever you want etc etc is rude, probably drunken bulls**t... Just my two cents.

usually guys from suburbia bring bitchy wives or girlfriends who only want to sit and tell there husband/boyfriends to tell people grooving to sit.

THe turn off is @#$%& who think admission allows them to act as they please. I intend to see to it that every shidobee a-hole is thrown our of the venue I am attending the tour.

Mickrichards is right. He is a rich stuffy snob who paid for a ticket & everyone in the stadium should behave the way HE wants. The Stones should set the volume for him, do the songs he wants & have someone deliver nachos & beer to him. He is VERY important...just ask him.

Did I miss something? I go to Stones shows and all kinds of other shows, and I stand when I want and yell my fool head off. Other times I sit down and enjoy, maybe a slower song or not one of my faves. If the guy in front of me is standing, so what? I just sort of look around him. What's the big effin' deal? What is the point people are making here, and in other similar threads -- if you don't stand through every minute of the show, you're somehow not worthy of being there? If you do stand from start to finish, you are somehow royalty of music fandom? You stand throughout the whole show because YOU really know your Stones, and you're eager to show everyone that's the case? Nobody gives a flying fukk if you're the worlds's greatest fan, or if you stand for five hours straight and never stop shrieking. Me, sometimes I just want to sit the fuk down. I don't get it.

No, herb, I imagine most of us do that - it's the Attitude up front, first post:
"...I do live in suburbia and I am rich. I became successful due to my intelect [sic] and the fact I have manners which many of the STANDING LOSERS WITH MENIAL JOBS [my emphasis - JR] do not." And "I intend to see to it that every shidoobee a-hole is thrown out of the venue..." I mean, what can one say? Perhaps this is the only (fleeting) moment I have felt relieved to be poor and unlikely to be blocking the VIP box. Always good to make folks aware of your wealth and superiority straightaway...

I'm not sure if I've understood either what's been said or why it's been said, but it's sure been fun reading it. As Mathijs remarked .... "the point exactly" ???

Re: The people who brag about standing make my point

I think the main point is whether a person has the right to stand or must sit when the person behind them demands for them to do so. I agree with BostonStrangler that a large portion of the time the person asking for you to sit down just isn't that into it...but I won't argue that point.

I'd just ask...should the person who wishes to stand HAVE to sit down when asked???

Certainly not ! Sitting down at a Stones concert ? Outrageous and totally unacceptable behaviour. A punishable offence, and yet another thing that should be outlawed by an act of parliament or Congress - whichever.

People who sit at a Rolling Stones concert should be escorted to the exits. It the Rolling Stones........what did Jagger say during Ladies and Gentlement The Rolling Stones...."You've been sitting on your asses long enough."

I was so taken aback by the aggressively superior tone McRichards' assumed in his posts that I lost sight of that sitting/standing issue. I've fortunately never had a really bad incident about standing/dancing or sitting nicely in our seats. Last time before the Stones hit the stage a woman & her 3 pals pretended to believe our seats were hers, and after explaining clearly that we were in the correct place she insisted in a confused manner to see my ticket. When I showed her the numbers/letters corresponded with those on my ticket she and her large drunk boyfriend looked closely at mine, then tried to grab it from my hand! Thank god I caught onto her ruse quickly, & had witnesses...But generally the enthusiasm is infectious, or people sitting don't mind me standing, or if I'm sitting for a break (HTW, say) I peer around those in front of me, and most people are usually considerate on all sides because they're there to rock. You just try to improvise & get along.

Well....I'm from the suburbs....and I stand during the Rolling Stones. I don't get why people sit. I am short.....but I manage to do just fine. To be honest....as long as I can hear the music and feel the energy of the crowd...I really don't need to see them. I know what they look like. I don't mind watching the video screen if the gent (or lady) in front of me is blocking my view.

I am just happy to be at my favorite bands concert......STANDING!!!

Well that trouble only arisis, when the crowd is trying to reach their seats.
Supportband going ahead - yeah i'll be sitting on the seat i paid for.
But when the Stones get going - i'll be (have) jumping down some baclonies and have always been right infront the stage (on the right side-of course)

hmm - i'm getting older aswell - maybe i'll skipp that jumping oO

I always warn those around me after the opening act. I tell them I follow the Stones to different cities and ask them if they have questions about the show (unless of course its opening night). I even tell them to listen for the "strumm of the chord" which means we're less than a minute from the lights going down. The vast majority of the time they warm up pretty fast, listen for the chord and, after they hear it, tell me they're glad I said something because it it gives them the go-ahead to rock n' roll! After that it's about two hours of rock r' roll bliss with some new friends!

Man I can't wait!

I consider myself a pretty easygoing guy, and I usually don't pass judgment on people. In most cases, people can do whatever they want. It doesn't affect me.

But one thing I do feel strongly about: If you'd rather sit than stand at a Stones concert, you're pathetic. Get your sorry ass out of the building and find something else to do.

There's like two threads going on simultaneously: the one about the stuck-up queen and the one about standing up. Which one are we addressing?

its ironic that he can't even spell "intellect"! i have a feeling he's not so smart after all - but rather, tries to posture himself above others in order to feel superior - just like racists, sexists, and speciesists.
