There's some plan to that. I couldn't even make much of song titles in the beginning but Forty Licks had just come out and that helped me a lot with getting a grip on the whole thing and leaning english, too.

I wonder how many other people on this board learned English via the Rolling Stones?

I certainly did. And having Mick Jagger as your English teacher at age 9 isn't necessarily the best idea...
I won't go into details.

I still remember first hearing the "my momma's so glad, I ain't on the dole" line. It sounded vaguely pornographic.

Later, I was relieved/disappointed to learn it only meant employment insurance.

With Love You Live you get to learn some French too.
It's like War and Peace.

Well, from now on, I'm Alright should be the opener.

Folks...
Lately I’ve had a strange vision persisting in my head.
Onstage at the RAH, the boys are playing “I’m Alright” for the encore, the crowd gone euphoric...

It's quite unfortunate that they don't delve into their discography more. SIXTY is just NO FILTER and previous with a couple of different songs.

It's just business - music - as usual.

Do you seriously think Mick Jagger will sing ‘what a drag it is getting old’ in public??

I’ll eat my hat if it happens…

Mick changed the lyrics of "Spider and The Fly" for the Stripped recordings. Why shouldn't he change lyrics again? Maybe "What a ride it is gettin' old" ... ;-)

Yep.

Like I already said exactly the same upthread.

Fans are overexcited by Out Of Time.

In all honesty, I don’t think the setlist as a whole is refreshing. Just a minor change. Business as usual.

Anyone wish "Gimme Shelter" was done without the female backup live?

I know it is a current day highlight but I have never been wild about the live Gimme Shelter with the featured female vocals.

It makes a very deep song come off like a Vegas show tune in my opinion. Just my opinion. I think the band could do a very nice 4 minute version with the iconic intro and outro and skip the female featured part.

Agreed. I would much rather have Ronnie guitar soloing over it. Since 2012 or so it's just a boring song live, doesn't have any edge to it anymore.

No.

And I like the versions nowadays. They are dark and daunting. Perfectly matching the times we life in.

We have a bunch of recordings where they do it like that. Would rather fancy Mick having another go at the harp late in the set.

Btw it's a solo spot. You have "female backup" for the rest of the show so it would stand out as not making any sense.

Merry Clayton made Gimme Shelter what it is, after all, didn’t she? And that original studio version is one of my all-time favorite Stones tunes. Female singer certainly elevates the performance to a higher level on any given occasion, Vegas or not.

So…no. Not at all.

The 'female' voice is an integral part of the song. And they don't camp it up, so I would stick with the way it's being done.

Not anymore. Lisa Fisher was awesome, but lately a bit over the top. Sasha Allen is not but always thought of the age gap to Mick as a little odd... but nevertheless a great live song!

No, it's what makes Gimme Shelter. A lot of Stones songs have an element that makes the song special. For HTW it's the cowbell, for Sympathy the samba beat, for Paint it black the sitar, for Rambler the harp. For GS it's the female solo part

Though somewhat predictable I’m surprised they didn’t break out As Tears Go By last night. How many times can the Italian version have been performed? Surely it must be a rarity.

Interesting merge, so basically any discussion about how they play a certain song live belongs in the setlist thread?
