Ya-Yah's..... I also like the 'Rock n Rock circus' version also.

I love the Rock N Roll Circus version. Mainly for Jagger though and because its the only version that captures the similar jungle vibe of the studio version. The other live versions are much more straight ahead rock which I always thought loses something of the song. Its never really been a hard rock song to me but more... whatever it is. Thats what makes the song so unique and I always thought the way they played it live kind of "normaled" it up a bit, thus kind of losing a key element.

However, while I've been critical of the Ya Ya's version for a long time (don't hate it but never saw it as God's gift that others do) I did hear that version very loud recently blasting on my turntable and I admittedly thought "whoa! I guess this is what everyone's been talking about all these years." When you've got it really loud and good separation to hear those guitars it makes a bigger impact.

To echo many others, I'd agree on the excellent Ya Ya's version; it is just smoking!

The version of Ya Ya's I listen to is TeagueRaw's remaster, which to my ears sounds even better (it's the Glyn John's raw mixes methinks, 'Get Yer Alt. Ya Ya's Out').

The version Tokyo '90 is surprisingly great also; guitar solo goes on a bit, but, it's a damn good version.

L.A. '75 not bad either!

The best ones are to be found on Ya Ya's, Baltimore and Altamont (69 tour) and a couple from the 1970 tour (Essen and some others that I don't know by heart. All other versions are crap and can be put aside.

+1. I think the 1975 version with Clapton on lead guitar deserves a listen for the novelty value, perhaps not for the actual playing.

I agree with you but honestly I cant really stand the crap comment on "all the other versions", I easily understand how people can love the LYL version and even the early "sampled marimbas" versions... cut the crap

Very well put. I love that version. Then again, I love almost everything on that album.

For me the best one is the one from Rock and Roll Circus. It sounds different than other realizes and i like that

I like how they did it on L.A. Friday very much! It's a mess, there are a million things going on, Mick Jagger shouts instead of sings, huge load of extra musicians and even a revisit to the classic YaYa's solo. Love it. But musically, it has never been better than the YaYa's version.
