Hey Stones2000, out of curiousity, why did you pick Vancouver 89? I was at both shows.

89 was only good on paper. It was the Chuck Leavell/Matt Clifford show with Ronnie and Keith following their lead... and Mick's every step and motion choreographed and calculated. No soul on that tour.

Not again!
Seriously now what's so great about this show? Yes it sounds good yet stiff on the dvd but it was heavily edited! And I suspect some overdubs were borrowed from the superior show at Cirkus in Stockholm. I saw both shows and Olympia was not even near as good IMO. Hand Of Fate from Olympia makes me wanna puke cause it's so bad.
Astoria was indeed a fantastic show. Great choices also, too few modern day shows choosen in this thread.

Well it sounded like an amazing tour! The Vancouver part was just because, had I been alive in 89, I could've gone. That's awesome that you were at both shows!

Second night was the best concert I've been to, mainly because I was row 2 center stage on the floor! Also, they played Angie that night. I would have liked to have seen the Vancouver 72 show, first night of the tour and 2000 peoople rioting outside the Coliseum with no tickets! Do you still live in Vancouver?

Olympia Paris - 2003
Spitting out my morning coffee!
I can't even get myself to watch the overdubbed video released from that show. The performance is shockingly stiff and lifeless, cameras must have made them nervous, cause the club show in Sweden a week later was better on all levels!
Brown Sugar & JJF from Olympia are killers though!

Interesting, EasterMan.
For me, the Paris Olympia show is one of the Stones' finest hours.
Are there any songs from the recording that you particularly dislike?

what are you basing your judgement on about Paris Olympia?
have you listened to their work in the 60s, 70s, and 81?

I haven't arrived at a definitive five shows, but I would include one of the stadium shows from 2015.

Yes, I believe they did, and certainly two or three of my five selections would come from this era.
The shows this year have not featured the band at their peak, but have shown the band in a new light and form an important part of the band's canon of live performances.
