Hey Stones2000, out of curiousity, why did you pick Vancouver 89? I was at both shows.

Well it sounded like an amazing tour! The Vancouver part was just because, had I been alive in 89, I could've gone. That's awesome that you were at both shows!

89 was only good on paper. It was the Chuck Leavell/Matt Clifford show with Ronnie and Keith following their lead... and Mick's every step and motion choreographed and calculated. No soul on that tour.

Olympia 2003.

Not again!
Seriously now what's so great about this show? Yes it sounds good yet stiff on the dvd but it was heavily edited! And I suspect some overdubs were borrowed from the superior show at Cirkus in Stockholm. I saw both shows and Olympia was not even near as good IMO. Hand Of Fate from Olympia makes me wanna puke cause it's so bad.

Astoria was indeed a fantastic show. Great choices also, too few modern day shows choosen in this thread.

Lucky you attending both. Olympia and cirkus were fantastic shows, i can only tell from boots and the DVD and based on that they were both fantastic. Never had the opportunity to attend a club/theatreshow and most likely never willthumbs down Seen many fantastic stadium/arena shows though.

13 -london hyde park (both Shows) - sweet summer sun- a perfect week with family in great britain
14- rome, steets of love, smell the history...

Second night was the best concert I've been to, mainly because I was row 2 center stage on the floor! Also, they played Angie that night. I would have liked to have seen the Vancouver 72 show, first night of the tour and 2000 peoople rioting outside the Coliseum with no tickets! Do you still live in Vancouver?

it's truly amazing to see how many shows on people's list are from just 10 or 15 years ago.... can someone explain why they'd rather see the stones in say 2003 over say at the rock n roll circus playing jumping jack flash live for the first time with john lennon, clapton and the who in the audience?

Olympia Paris - 2003

Spitting out my morning coffee!
I can't even get myself to watch the overdubbed video released from that show. The performance is shockingly stiff and lifeless, cameras must have made them nervous, cause the club show in Sweden a week later was better on all levels!

Brown Sugar & JJF from Olympia are killers though!

Interesting, EasterMan.

For me, the Paris Olympia show is one of the Stones' finest hours.

Are there any songs from the recording that you particularly dislike?

Hand Of Fate is a total train wreck. The intro was flubbed on ''No Expectations'' which also is a very cold version. Neighbors is nothing like the cool punk rock version we got on other shows. Many mistakes and missed cues were edited out for the dvd.

Most songs from that concert are stiff and lifeless and does nothing for me.
There were TONS of other more passionate club gigs on the Licks tour. Paris isn't a horrible show, I just didn't feel like it cough the right vibe.

I have.

I'm simply of the opinion that The Rolling Stones peaked as a live act between 1994 and 2003.

Yes, I believe they did, and certainly two or three of my five selections would come from this era.

The shows this year have not featured the band at their peak, but have shown the band in a new light and form an important part of the band's canon of live performances.
