Well, it could've been worse in retrospect. Keith could've written something like 'show us yer knockers' or 'lemme touch yer tits' Actually, the latter-line is almost Jaggeresque.

this thread is inspiring..

im going to encourage my wife more often..

Every time I encourage my wife to bare her breasts and make me feel at home I get a (stone) cold look.

...that"s really strange - she never does that when I ask her. smoking smiley

Somehow this thread brings forward the pleasant image of female fans, listening to this
song, bearing there breasts and feeling Keith' fingers touching their skins...

I think I need a break, now.

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

My guess was that I thought you were into 'guys' Rough Justice, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Depends on what I'm looking for, Treacles.
Only: guys with (bared) breasts... thàt never makes me feel at home. That's where I draw the line!

I agree...it's the hair around the nipples that's especially the turn off.

I think the song is beautiful.

its a good wee song, much like what we would expect from keith when it comes to the slower numbers. its in the same catagory as, sleep tonight, slipping away, the worst etc.

This Place Is Empty is really about Mick. That's why Keith added the "s" to breast, so people would think it was about a woman. Keith is asking Mick to bare his breast, make himself at home, be old pals again.

Read the lyrics closely. There's no doubt it's about Mick.

Well, at least we're a step up from the person who (a few years ago on another site)
insisted it's about Mick Taylor - MT/empty, get it? eye popping smiley

But anyway ... granted that any good lyrics resonate on many levels ... and that Glimmer lyrics about relationships
often include large doses of about-each-otherness, intentionally or not ... OK sure, some of these sentiments apply
to how Keith feels about Mick. But they also apply to how Keith feels about Patti,
and to how he channels millions of people's feelings about an absent partner. That's why the song resonates.

I read them and there's no chance it's about Mick

But did you ask him to bare his soul?

well i like it, but as much as i love most of Keith's ballads, this one kind of feels like it was done in a hurry. he does put it over nice in live shows. he sang it very well in front of 2 million on copacabana beach.

Love the lead vocals by Keith, Mick's harmony/background vocal is beautiful.

Don't know why Keith thought it necessary to put yet another background vocal (his own) on it, though. It totally ruins the song for me.

Pete.

Well...... at this point in time, Mick Taylor certainly has larger breasts than Mick Jagger! And, of course, they're nicer than Ronnie Wood's!!! drinking smiley

I may think otherwise (more positive) on another occasion, but today:

To me, "This Place Is Empty" is not a major song, neither as an individual song nor as a song on A BIGGER BANG. Its main function for me is to contribute to a balance between songs on the album. Besides and as such, it has got a certain ability to supply a mood as its main asset. Then, I would completely disagree if someone considered it a filler. However, most of all it is one of some songs that is an album track. To that purpose, as a building block to that, it serves quite well, in my opinion,

...and as much as I enjoy a good 'slap' that I guess is my point with this song. In every other way I really like the song but for that one stupid lyric which really ruins the song for me.

I’ve been listening to Jerry Lee’s country stuff. “Walk Right In.” The opening line: “You better walk right in / sit on down.”

Wonder if the Killer was on Keith’s mind when he wrote TPIE.

A compassionate and groundbreaking piece of music in which Keith reinvents himself as the poster boy for musician-assisted suicides.

I ask you - What man intent on blowing his brains out but lacking sufficient courage to pull the trigger wouldn’t be grateful to hear this dirge?

BANG!
