The Evile Edit

To be perfectly honest I haven't even bothered to listen to Live Lix at all. The idea of that release so turned me off that I am left cold. But you guys keep mentioning this particularly annoying edit in "Rocks Off". From what part to what does it jump? If you tell me the lyrics of the edit hop I will be able to hear it.

Chelsea

Trust me, mate - its so obvious that we wont need to point it out to you.

Its actually cut in the middle of a LINE.

believe me, listen to it just once you'll hear it and go "what the @#$%&" or think your CD has started skipping. Its THAT bad.

Gazza's right...they edit what is probably one of their best lines ever...

Worst of all is that they cut a line which is an absolute must singalong!
Imagine them cutting the "Cherry red" line in YCAGWYW!!!!!!!!!!

The reason I ask for you guys to describe it is becasue I do not have the disc. It has been up until this day, this disc, inconceivable that I would not own every official release. But I have noi intention of buying this waste of dics space.
So I am still wondering from what line to what does it jump? Please LOL

The line "The sunshine bores the daylight out of me" is cut...
Actually, you can hear Lisa and Bernard starting to sing "the sun..." and then it's cut.

But that is musically idiotic! And it doesn't even save time. What a bizarre decision. What was going through this suit's head?
So it goes from "...all that inside me.." to "..chasing shadows moonlight mystery"? That would be so stupoid. The moonlight line is like an answer line; lyrically and musically.

that's just the *first* line that's missing, baby & it HURTS!
it goes about like this:
"feel so hypnotized, can't describe the scene
feel so mesmerized all this inside me
[the s] only get my rocks off when I'm dreamin"

ow ow ow ow ow - and the track sounds so freakin *fine* up to that point

"What do you want - what?!"

eh?

editing a song has got nothing to do with a "suit"

its a musical decision, pure and simple. The buck stops with the Stones.

Indeed some nasty edits, but overall it's a good live album.
I think you won't regret it if you buy it.

Dudes, seems to me the reason for this edit, is that the show it was taken from is the Twikenham show from Four Flicks, and if you watch this tune from that show you will notice that Jagger is running from the side of the stage and appears a little out of breath so that he doesn't actually sing it, in fact Lisa and Bernard carry the line.

Sorry if this has already been pointed out.

It was the Stones decision to cut this line from this song.

Chelsea, how can you call this release a waste of disc space when you haven't heard it yet? Are you basing this on other peoples opinions? Apart from the Rocks Off edit (and one or two other edits) I think that the mixing of this disc makes it worth the money. After all, I only paid a few quid for it and its a double album.

Seriously, if it is available in a bargain bin (I saw it for £4 the other day) then buy it. You might be surprised!

@#$%& me, Can't believe you saw it for four quid! Gotta say something when the latest official Stones release is relegated to the bargain bins and going for that price.

It was Asda (Walmart) where even the latest releases go for less than a tenner.

They also had Sticky Fingers for £4.

The second cd is very good (apart from the editing of course) IMO.
I love Neighbours, the guitars are fantastic in the cd!!!

Cheers,

no reason for editing it out, though.

Besides, they could have used another version or (gasp) overdubbed the vocal on the Twickenham version.

The first CD is largely best version of warhorses appearing on official CD for years.

No Security was dull sounding except Gimme Shelter (and one or two others).

Flashpoint was good reflection of that tour but had too many synths.

Still Life is from another era of more rocking less coreographed shows.

Apparently, it was the Stone's view that the whole song fell apart for that verse. I can't diagree with that, but they should have either chosen a version from another show, spliced a verse from another version in there, or used a different song altogether.

Re: The Evile Edit

if they thought it was that bad, then logically they should have left the whole bloody song off or replaced it with another one?

Re: The Evile Edit

I call it a waste of disc space because it has edits on it. Believe me, it hurts me to have to say it. But I do not have to hear it. I know what a bad edit sounds like. It's the principle that I find wrong so there is no way that I can ever say "Oh yes this sounds good". Never ever in my whole life have I not wanted to even hear a Stones release but this album I am totally not interested in.
As far as the "suits" go... butchering a song is ALWAYS a suit's decision.

Re: The Evile Edit
Posted by: Gazza ()

No its not. Edits, overdubs and mixes are the musician's decision. They have the final word on what goes on the record. Theres no way the Stones would let someone dictate that to them.

You dont seriously think some Virgin Records executive is going to tell the band to chop a minute off the solo on "you cant always get what you want" or edit out some of the "yeah yeah yeah - woo"" chants on "brown sugar"?

Re: The Evile Edit

What I am saying is that if Jagger authorized this edit, then he is a suit.

Chelsea,

As another principled Stones fan I made exactly the same decision....not to buy it - because they should have given us another studio release before another live one, (especially as they'd already released Four Flicks). So, it was nasty, cynical commercialism.

However, my proviso was that I would buy it AFTER the next studio release - and second-hand or very cheap, so that they'd not profit from my purchase. I also saw it recently for about £4. Still not cheap enough!

I suppose I'm most looking forward to hearing the edit - by a be-suited MJ indeed! Was he possibly wearing a tie too?

You know Four Stone, that soundsa very good. Your idea. I'm going to do the same thing. I will still have made my point to myself, and I will also evetually hear this confounded edit. The thing is: I am not really looking forard to another liveshow. IMO it's not even so much because I feel like they owe us a studio album. It's more like I am so overkilled by liveshows form all the boots.
I think we on IORR must realize that 90% of record buying public out there does not hear so many liveshows as us here.

Yeah, we are spoiled by boots. Even poor quality ones are good. And they're not fake, (they don't wear suits).

I don't like the album either. Mick's vocals are too prominent and I always get annoyed with the snarls he makes in some of the songs, like Street fighting man. I presume they're overdubs as they don't aggravate me when I listen to the same version on 4 flicks.
As for the edit on Rocks Off, why the hell was it put on the album in the first place? They had numerous songs to choose from, I thought @#$%& was awesome at Twickenham. If anyone in england wants a copy you can pick it up in high street shops for around £5.99. I also saw hot rocks vol 1 (SACD) in Music Zone for £9.99 at the weekend.
