Well if a double album you have to have the two different versions of Honky Tonk on different sides. And Midnight Rambler too slow. Wow. Crazy talk to me. What a blistering dark blues opera. And why not add Still a Fool. Even slower and really shows Keith's new raunchy tone. Seems to be along the same lines as Midnight Rambler.

What if Dirty Work was an EP?

Or a double album, with most of the outtakes..

God help us.

Dirty Work wouldn't have worked as a single.

Consider the Keith parts of Dirty Work and Mick's She's the Boss and you've got the real Dirty Work.

Yes, that's what I like to do too. Have you ever played Let It Bleed in the order given on the album's sleeve?!

She's The Dirty, would have been a monumentally good album title.

It's not THAT bad as is.

The Dirty work outtakes are better than most of the songs which are on the actual album.

LIB is just perfect.

Let's just say I have limited enthusiasm.

FYI (I really thought you knew this?) there are lots of good stuff that (unfathomable enough) didn't make the album.

Dandie, I agree that there are some potential material in the vaults, and the album might have been slightly better if some others choices had been made, but in the end, if it had been a double album, it had followed the ideology of VOODOO LOUNGE and A BIGGER BANG by thinking that an album would be better if there are more mediocre numbers than just a regular eleven or twelve. The quantity over quality...

The double album-thing was said tongue in cheek smiling smiley

But it is incredible that an album that turned out to be mediocre had so much unused material that could easily have improved it.

I prefer LIB as a single album.
Not a big fan of double albums as there are normally a few fillers.
The beauty of Exile for example is there is no real standout, its very even throughout.
LIB has some of the greatest classics ever...so would have been too uneven as a double album..if some of the songs mentioned in this thread were added.

It's hard to make a 'perfect' album. What we have here is that, so it would be nearly impossible to keep that level of quality, over two additional sides.

Just not worth the risk, throw out yet another studio album in 1970 instead.

Mysteries, mysteries - it started with Let It Bleed and ended with Dirty Work. Do you know what both have in common?: A wrong track listing on the album sleeve.

Not true...each album is a 'celebration'.

Let It Bleed has the cake.

Dirty Work has them decked out in neon to PARTAY!

It's not true. LIB is the evolution of BB and its has got a particular atmosphere (like Exile).
It's the perfect single album of the Stones.

You can't skip or delete a track from this album, the result will not be the same.
For example Country Honk is perfect here (and for the album I prefer CH to HTW), also Let It Bleed and You got the silver are tracks that create this atmosphere. It's not just a compilation of great tracks, there is a huge integrity and an energy in every tracks more in this Lp than in Sticky Fingers in my opinion.

and after listening to the LP version of YCAGWYW the single edit just painful to listen to...also I am so glad they left Keith's You Got The Silver alone and didn't use the Mick vocal..there is NO comparison!

Well, if they some day are going to do a deluxe treatment to this gem, it mostly likely will be the only Stones album that the bonus album is better than the original one...grinning smiley
