what ever happened to Super Heavy

I guess Mick realized he needs to be with the Stones to be relevant there is no escaping them if he wants to remain relevant.

Just a thought: Super Heavy is the last full studio project that Mick has contributed to - by that, I mean more than just two songs as on Grrr.

still like that album. third best 'solo' project he ever did (after Memo From Turner and Wandering Spirit album).

What do you mean by 'relevant' ?

They'll live in on Dave Stewart's tattoo.

Another reminder to Mick of how much he needs The Rolling Stones to be relevant.

I'd say he needs the Stones to be timeless, but he likes to dabble in extra-musical adventures to be relevant (or his idea of relevance).

Love superheavy, best solo thing any of the stones have done!

if memory serves MJ always said (implied?) that SH was a one-off project.

Perhaps the best answer to the question of this thread is one word:

NOTHING.

There was no plan to make it a permanent group.
MJ is doing things he likes. Seems relevant enough to me too...

I know what it means, but in what sense? Musically, financially, ... ?

I still think it was a brave move by all members involved in the project.
Then we can discuss if it was a succesful attempt or not.
I will say it was both.

There were some very good songs, mainly them that were composed by one artist. Jagger's 'solo' songs are great, a couple of Joss Stone, Ziggy Marley and David Stewart's were also fine.

The project goes wrong were it is obvious that 'too many cooks will spoil the soup', pun intended. Those songs are problematic.

Still, I find it an interesting, but flawed, listening experience.

They're still waiting for their popularity to peak. Then they'll do a massive world tour and then go back in the studio to cut their next album in about 5 years. it's gonna be awesome.

Just gave that album a spin again yesterday, it may not be to every Stones fan's taste but there is some good stuff on it.

nomen est omen!
The project sank to the ground and was soon forgotten

It's a fantastic album ... not sure I'd say 'best solo', as there's Wandering Spirit, Keith's first one, some of Ronnies. Tough call.

Re: what ever happened to Super Heavy

Super Heavy was probably just a weekend experiment Mick wanted to participate in, and decided that there just wasn't enough arguing over who sang what, who got to 'write' what, etc., missed Keith, and left. winking smiley

I liked the album. Have a feeling Mick was disappointed in the final product
Otherwise there would have been more promoting after it's release.

They sank without a trace. May as well been the final nail into Mick's desire to create new music.

Embarrassingly low sales killed it.

Getting together like that with those musicians wasn't the best strategy for very high sales: they all knew that...
When you do something creative together like this you do it for a totally different reason: it's not a RS tour.

Marley knew that. That's why he distanced himself from this project so soon after the release. I had the impression that Mick and Dave wanted this to last.

Embarrassingly low quality material killed it. Thankfully.

I liked some of AR Rahman's input. He was interesting. The rest was dime a dozen-stuff, imo.

It's too deuty. That Mircale Worker song is complete fluff.

Re: what ever happened to Super Heavy

And that's one of the better songs on the album...
