Does anybody know if "Brown sugar" version with E. Clapton has been recorded on 18/12/1969 or 18/12/1970?

Most of the source say 1970, but others say 1969, and it sounds like it was recorded a few days after the original take (03/12/1969 according to 'the complete works').

Brown Sugar with E. Clapton doesn't come close to Brown Sugar with Mick Taylor.

The live versions, you mean?

I think they should still add it to sticky deluxe

Agreed. They could add one of the studio versions Taylor played on as well, to show the progress and how the song developed.

I have listened to both since 1978 after picking up the 12" of CS Blues c/w Brown Sugar w/ Clapton, and I have to say that the Clapton one is the real deal, from the relaxed party atmosphere to Clapton's stinging slide solo (!!!!) to Keith's backing vox (down to the ground....).

I really like the official version, but the Clapton version is transcendent.

No, I like Clapton. But this one just isn't up there, imo. And his solo is not played with a slide, so "a stinging slide solo" is a bit off the mark smiling smiley

Imo it's a nice harmless silly oddity that indeed should be on the SF reissue.

sounds like EC is on H here..he's quite the laidback player...to laidback for the stones imo. sounds like he's always a little to 'soon' with his licks here.

stones play behind the beat, he misses that. Never really a group player.

One of the greatest nevertheless!!

Not too fond of Clapton's contribution but Mick's and Keith vocals are a blast on this one. Take Claptons part off and have MT play all the fills and leads and we'd have true classic. Kinda reminds me of this tune, love to hear Edgar Winter playing piano on some Stones tunes.

No, the studio one (but the live versions also).
I'm strenghtend in my believe after listening to the YouTube clip above. I was right after all this years of non-listening to it.
What I like most about it is Keith's backing vocals.

Another question came to my mind. This Brown Sugar was recorded during a (jam)session celebrating Keith's birthday dec. 18, 1970 in Olympic Studios.
They must have done other songs...that never surfaced... What songs?

Isn't it an urban myth about Clapton? As far as my ears tell me, it's Taylor playing that solo.

thumbs up
Came too my mind also... after listening to it today for the first time after 20-30 years or something.

Just like only this week I learned Mick is not singing on INVITATION (Dirty Work outtake) but Don Covay.

Strange days indeed.

I love this version too. The slide is excellent; even though it always sounds like the actual solo is o/d under Bobby's sax; and is not played with slide. I like Keith on BU vox, and the way he changes up his part @ 3.33. Jagger sounds rough and smoky.

Anyone recall the footage of Keith reciting the lyrics of BS? Is that in CS Blues?

This version is worthwhile not so much for Clapton's solo, but for Keith's harmonies and Taylor's slide playing. Hope they have a good quality master. It would be great to get it on SF Deluxe.

and this is interesting. For some songs Keith wanted to play all the guitar parts like in IORR, TD (With MJ) Happy and luxuury

Oh okay, maybe that's why it's so much better. They should erase Clapton's part also for the Deluxe Sticky Fingers.

There are some earlier version with Taylor, though. They would be nice to get on the Deluxe.
