When did Mick stop wearing glitter makeup on stage?

For sure in 1972 and 1973 he was wearing makeup. Of course everybody was doing it in 1973, the Glitter era. I somehow doubt hat he wore makeup before the 1972 tour, but I am not sure.

Then for the first show on the 1975 tour in Baton Rouge there are pictures of him with hideous makeup imo. But I get the sense that he dropped the whole makeup thing after the first show because in all the other pictures, I don't think you see him wearing makeup.

Let's not count basic black eyeliner, which Keith wore a lot of in the 80s and I assume sometimes Mick did the same.

So, when did makeup become passe for androgynous Micky boy? Inquiring minds want to know.

No doubt Mick is still wearing makeup whenever in front of a camera or on stage. When it became more subtle with the Stones was probably on the 1989 Steel Wheels tour.

One only has to look at the cover of She's the Boss to see he was still being somewhat obvious about it in 1985.

peace

Agreed, but that's just generic makeup to look younger, hide lines, and show facial highlights and stuff like that. I mean the blue or green eyeshadow and the glitter on the temples and chest, etc.

I guess you can't beat the glam rock era (about 1970-75) when it comes to makeup, campness and androgynity. But the again the punk era saw some heavy makeup too.

I think 1975 tour was the last for eye shadow. I don't see it in the 76 tour pics

Of course he's always used a little bit of makeup, every performer in the world does that, especially if they have to be on camera. But I think he stopped with the glitter, lipstick etc by the time of the Some Girls tour in 78. He was still using heavy makeup on some occasions throughout the European tour in 76, but it was definitely a step down from the amount of of makeup he wore on the 73 and 75 tours. It wasn't quite as prominent on the 72 tour, but if you watch "Ladies and Gentlemen" and you can clearly see that he was indeed wearing it.

Most of the makeup had stopped by the some girls tour, though.

Mick was competing with D Bowie and also was part of the reason he went solo. If Bowie can do it then so can I...that kind of thinking plus not having to split the profits with any Stones.

Because glam had gone kaput, especially after punk broke in Britain in '76.

Baton Rouge, LA.

I think this a good look for Mick. For the time.

I thought Mick started with the make-up in 1968, for both Jumpin' Jack Flash and Performance.

I read an interview with Mick where he said he cut out the make up and cut his hair after 1976 because he "got fed up of looking like an old whore"..............

Mick, "looking like an old whore" is part of the job.

Sounds like a typical punk-era comment.
