How many copies of Sticky Fingers were printed wiht the physical zipper? I picked up a copy the other day in a small antique store in Cape Town the other day, for R150 (~10 pounds), and judging by appearances it seems to come straight from 1971.

I have one with the zipper that my brother bought when the album came out in 1971. Beaten up (both cover and vinyl) from parties and beer spills over the years. Still love it, even with more than a few click and pops when listening to the vinyl.

BTW, be careful if you have other vinyl shelved next to the zipper cover, because the zipper could damage the other vinyl...

Yes, the zipper should be down so that it rests against the label not the disc playing surface.

The liner notes-sheet is taking off for that pressure nicely so far

zipper can do more damage than you think up or down,hahahaha,great album,great cover and music too,next year will get the deluxe edtion,looking forward to that with 2 zippers.

The real zipper were made all through the 80`s. As far as I remember CBS had printed zipper in 1988 but later they released special editions with a real zipper. Well that was in Germany, but US and UK were similar.

Actually most of the reissues actually has the zipper. EMI reissues from 1980 came both with and without zip and the CBS version from 1988 is without zip.
Virgin reissue from 1997 has the zip again

the originals and at least thru 73-74 (when I bought mine) in the US had metal zippers. I remember the person at the record store saying how usually if the shipping box they came in had quite a few copies in them that usually there were quite a few warped if shipped during the summer months...

They're not hard to find, just look on ebay. I noticed a 3D TSMR the other day on ebay that was *sealed*! That wasn't cheap, but you can find good used copies of both at decent prices.
