A Tribute concert for Bobby Keys, Mac & Bobby Womack would be a beautiful thing. Any thoughts...?

How long have you known the Stones? Not Gonna Happen.

....that we will never see or hear, because it will be done only for special invited friends in attendance, say, at the 100 Club, and we will never hear the one tape that is made of the concert by one of the invited guests, like, say, Macca.

Hey, I never said they had to sell tickets man. No need to be so negative. I believe the members of the Rolling Stones are true to their heart and those close to them.

Seems like they'd kind of be stretching for a tribute concert to those people. Don't get me wrong, I love them all, but they don't really scream of needing their own benefit. Seems fine to just acknowledge and think back on their importance over they years.

Save the tribute concerts for when Keith, Mick, Macca, Clapton, etc kick the bucket.

Add Brian, Nicky Hopkins and Billy Preston to that list.

Stretching for Bobby Keys who has been with them on and off since he recorded Live With Me 1969? The year I was born. And as the Stones have said, integral part of their recorded music.

You mean realistic, right?

It's a great thought , I'm sure they are thinking more about what Bobby would want than their personal need to express tribute to him publicly or even privately. And he would probably just say burn a fatty and have a drink for me. I doubt he would want any more hoopla.

If Bobby or Ian's family needed financial help that might be a different matter and I could see them pulling something off for that purpose. But that might even be a stretch since they could probably just write a check.

peace

I would love to see , and think it perhaps more realistic, a tribute song or set for Bobby at their next gig. Opening (or closing) Rock in Rio-Vegas with perhaps a special guest or three would be nice.

Re: Stones Should Do A Tribute Concert

The best tribute they did was at Chuchs Funeral in 2002, what an amazing thing that was. One and only time they ever played that song live

.....keep on rolling.....

It's nowhere near a certainty they'll be at the Vegas thing or anywhere else for that matter.

My guess is that there will be a tribute concert for Bobby Keys. Not by the Stones, but artists he has worked with. Some Stones members will attend, but not the whole band.

That's the difference between a tribute and a benefit, though, right?

I think they will do a similar thing.

They already did a tribute gig for Stu:

"The Stones played a tribute gig with Rocket 88 in February 1986 at London's 100 Club, and included a 30-second clip of Stewart playing the blues standard "Key to the Highway" at the end of Dirty Work. When the Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, they requested Stewart's name be included".

And not to forget the Ben-Waters-CD from April 2011 (= 25 Years).

The Rolling Stones did already a small tribute to Bobby Womack as well:

They played "It's All Over Now" on June 28, 2014 at TW Classic in Werchter.

See this Post above.

More about Ian Stewart in Wikipedia.

From [www.timeisonourside.com] :

"February 23, 1986: The Rolling Stones perform for the first onstage in nearly 4 years, to a chosen, non-paying audience at the 100 Club in London, England, as a tribute to Ian Stewart. They mostly perform blues covers, joined by Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. Paul McCartney is among the audience and makes a private audio recording of the show.

Bill Wyman (1986): Playing onstage again
It made a nice jam. We hadn't played together for 4 years. We like to do small gigs once in a while for nostalgia. Playing at the 100 Club for Stu was like playing our first-ever gig..

What about a new studio album - and then ending it with a little snippet of Bobby's sax, a'la DIRTY WORK in regards to Stu... (but hope this time not being the best part in the whole album..winking smiley)

Best idea on this thread IMO. Maybe even better added to the rumoured Sticky Fingers Deluxe. There's got to be some vintage Bobby Keys on tape from that period.

Good idea! A couple of wurlitzer-notes to honour Mac as well would also be cool, imo.

Great setlist, worth to be released, if they did the songs really.
