From Billboard chart alert:

Want to know a band that should love Dad's best day? Two years ago Father's Day frame saw the Rolling Stones' hits set "Forty Licks" rise 161-120, up 61% over the previous week. Last year's the album's sales almost doubled, accounting for a re-entry at No. 174 the week of July 3, 2004. This year the Stones' greatest hits "Jump Back" enjoyed a massive 45% of gain over the previous week, and the album rise 169-132 on the Billboard 200 with 8,800 copies sold. With the next Stones' tour close, their extensive catalog is on rise too: "Forty Licks" advances 84-63 on Billboard's Top Pop Catalog chart with sales of almost 4,300 copies.

This is intersting. I was just reading in (viking's thread I think) that there is also some catalogue being reissued but not on SACD. All the 70's albums with respective postcards etc.
I have never owned a SACD. new thread...

Thanks georgelicks. By contrast with the usual bitching of some fans, it's obvious that a lot of young people take an interest in the music of the Stones. I don't think that many band's old friends are buying compilations of the same classics. Don't forget, too many Stones "best of" in the last 20 years... Noone buys for 3th or 4th time the same song, if he isn't a huge fan who wants to hear "Don't Stop".

Some fans underrate the strong sales of "Forty Licks" worldwide, saying: "Every "best of" sells strongly, it's a fashion". This is not true. I noticed the peak positions of the some compilations that bad been realized at the same period (2002- 2003). On USA and sometimes on UK catalogues.

Fleetwood Mac #12 (but more than 500,000 copies sold) and UK #7.
Sting and the POlice #46
Prince #66
Rod Stewart #40 (more than 500,000)
David Bowie #70 and UK #11
Steve Wonder #35 and UK #16
INXS #144

Only UK:

Blondie #38
Who #17
Iron Maiden #57
Stones Roses #19
Robert Palmer #53
Eric Clapton #74

Actualy, that period successful were only the compilations of Elvis (#1, #1), Stones (#2, #2) and Nirvana (#3,#3). Also, the compilation of U2 "1990- 2000 the B sides": in USA #3 but after #27 and #49. In UK #3. Elton John #12 (an week after #22).
So, don't underrate the 7 (or 8 ?) million sold copies of Fouty Licks...

RIAA website has updated their US album sales. Stones moved up a bit but AC/DC has now leapfrogged them.

RIAA's is missing the Exile 3x Platinum certification, the real number for the Stones is 66.5 m. not 64.5.

Hi Rankoutsider,

That's 66.5 million sold since they began. I mentioned in a previous thread recently that I thought that wasn't many sold considering how many albums they've released, but it was pointed out (correctly) that their albums are all consistent sellers, with Hot Rocks (12 million) being their biggest.
