Well, while driving home, I heard Ace's How Long (how long has this been going on...) for the umteenth time. Nice song, but when the guitar solo came around
I thought "I like the tune, but hate the guitar solo."
So for fun...let's hear it. I 'm sure I can think of more,
but for right now, I'll start with this.
Actually, the only Stones song that comes to mind (and it's not a Stones song)
was the solo when they did Nothing From Nothing on the '76 tour.
They could never get a good guitar solo on that one.
I like the song, though...

Hold On To Your Hat (a mess of effects disturbs the hell out of me, and obviously it's done to mask bad playing).

Terrifying - Great theme invented by Ronnie, but the sound is so thin that I start to lose interest after a couple of seconds (better live, great song).

Miss Amanda Jones - there's a solo in there, isn't it? If I remember correctly it ruins the song, because it's so out of tune.

That's a sweet song but what makes it a Stones-song and not sugarsweet is the guitar-solo. Putting a pretty raw solo (compared to the rest of the song) is very important for breaking against the sweetness, I think. If you understand what I mean.
However, I'm not a musician, I have to add.

I understand what you mean, but unfortunately it goes to the extreme of being tuneless and unlistenable. Instead of coming across as 'raw', it simply sounds like the playing of someone who's been learning the guitar for about 3 days...

IMO, The Fingerprint File-solo is quite good.

how can you not like a stones solo.. some fans. i just can't be seen with you. it's just terrifying, though, i do have some mixed emotions. maybe i just find it sad sad sad..

seriously, i don't think there's a solo i really don't like. i mean; some are better than others, but HATE a stones solo? nope..

The whole thing practically falls apart at the break. The song gets back on it's feet, but a lot of the tension is lost.

It's still a great song, but if they had re-worked the sloppy mid-section it could have been a Stone Classic like HTW, BS, etc.

Listen to Hampton '81. They nailed it, middle and all, start to finish.
