Even though often referred to as the "Thunder From Down Under"...Bon, Angus & Malcolm were all Scottish born.

"Ununited Kingdom"

ok come on, I'm just kidding.
I quote myself just to say that the "Ununited Kingdom" fictitious Scottish band has decided to split cos a majority of Scottish people has decided to remain British.
thanks for your attention.

So from what time can we look forward to watch Celtic FC in Premier League?

Please don't bring west of Scotland parochial tribalism here. Music, yes music please.

ISB wrote the book on Twee. Good call on Bert Jansch though.

Thanx to this thread, I went to Youtube to search for any updates on ISB, their vids (1966-1974) are so rare, but I never expected to find this gem, yee-haw!

Robin doing all the hard work as usual... a friend of mine who saw them few times in Liverpool emailed --

"apparently before he was famous nationally robin was famous around the scottish folk clubs as the absolute best fiddle player on the scene. he's pretty good on guitar too. and harp. and everything else. he was doing the others a favour playing with them really."

I love Robin's mando work here:

From the same TV program (Beat Club 1970):

Anyone here saw them live?

I think this may be a better representation, factoring in the bagpipes:

Never seen that clip of Black Jack Davy before. You know, for a band that was so twee they really had some heavy fwends, as Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips wouldd say. Mick and Marianne loved them as did Jimmpy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin; Pete Townshend of The Who who played on Mike Heron's first solo album; and so did Paul McCartney.
Saw them at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London about 10 years ago and they were great.

im scottish, from clydebank near glasgow, and think most scottish bands were poor, especially wet wet wet, the proclaimers and deacon blue. the best 2 bands were simple minds in the early days with big country the best ever scottish band, sadly they lasted for a short time and stuart adamson the lead singer committed suicide in 2001.

Hello,

There's a reason so many people here have mentioned Teenage Fanclub and Primal Scream. Both brilliant at what they do. Yes, you might say that TFC are one-trick jangle ponies, and that some of the Scream's music too obviously apes the Stones', but at their best, both are ace. The Scream are hugely versatile.

Look for TFC's 'Bandwagonesque' and 'Songs From Northern Britain' albums. The Scream have loads of highlights, but start with 'Screamadelica' and also look for 'Vanishing Point' and 'Exterminator'.

Not forgetting The Skids - Richard Jobson, vocals & Stuart Adamson (always preferred them to Big Country)
Into The Valley

Charade (a classic, my pic sleeve 45 still a favourite!)
