Keith's best solos
Posted by: Cafaro ()

Since I learned that Keith played most of the guitar solos in the pre-MT era, I have developed a new regard for his playing. I just heard Heart of Stone on the radio so I thought of this post. A few favs are :

Heart of Stone
It's All Over Now
Sympathy For the Devil

'Let It Rock' from Leeds 1971 is one of my all time favs. Pure magic that one! 'Bitch' is another.

Keith is still doing great work IMHO. Just listening to the rehearsal of Oh no not you again you can hear that he still has it. Other resent work is the live Flip the switch from No Security...great guitar work by the rif master!

There are many of them that I can list here but one song where he plays a great solo or solos on is the live version of Fool to Cry from Aux Abbitoirs, probably spelled that wrong.

The funny thing is that is one of my least favorite Stones songs but once I heard this live version with Keith playing the solos throughout the song it made me look at it differently.

Also like his solo on Brand New Car, Let Me Go, You Gotta Move (live), slide on studio version of Monkey Man, Time is on My Side.

I'll stop there.

Did you ever hear Sympathy For The Devil on Live at the MAX? Damn, that's @#$%& great! That's gotta' be one of his best. Others could be... his Under My Thumb solo's on the 81/82 tours, as mentioned before, his solo's on Suzie Q. I also like the overall soloing in Winning Ugly(Dirty Work) wich goes on throughout the whole song.

You always hear him saying he thinks he's good at rhytym. I don't think he reallieses he played some rockin' solo's!

Sympathy: the original, just snarls and bites like a junk yard dog.

The live version from Ya-Ya's is also awsome.

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

YES! Any solos from his 2 solo discs are great. I personally think he did his best soloing during the London years

Ahh! HAte that one. It sounds so separeted from the rest and goes on forever. I'd prefer anything from '81-'82. He played like a devil there.

and Ay ay baby it hurts

I don´t like it, too. It´s too much posing in a way like Slash would doing it. It´s not a Keef-Posing. But for this kind of Posing Solo, he plays not enough notes!!

Hey Cafaro; That's Jimmy Page playing on both studeo recordings. It's well documented. Doesn't sound like Keth at all. My favorite is his lead in Bitch. No THAT"S Keith all the way.

Keith plays the solos on both Heart Of Stone and It's All Over Now (original versions). Page plays only on Andrew Loog Oldhams Orchestra-side on Metamorphosis.

I love his comping solo from the studio 2000 Light Years... That's a hell of a cool noise he makes there, plus, if you listen well, it has a construction and good rhythm!!
