Yeah I saw the San Diego thing but its literally all the same stuff thats already in the box multiple times over. I think I'll be fine with 2 discs of various live material, 2 more discs of highlights from Toronto and then a full show from London. Can't imagine what two more discs of another full show will yield that isn't already in the box.

Well you get the between song banter which for one thing is rare for Bob and apparently was quite sermonesque on this tour so could be of interest.

The banter is not there, the cds are ( mostly ) from the second San Diego show.

So is this stuff worth the money.
It's the first of the Bootleg series I was actually thinking of buying.
I love Dylan, but I never thought his live performances or recordings were much good except the 66 Albert Hall and the 1995 bootleg with the great guitar player.
So should I spend the money?

His Real Live album with Mick Taylor is pretty good. His set with The Band at The Last Waltz to me is outstanding unique live Dylan. Before The Flood is basically goes along with that too and is really great. His set at Bangladesh stops the concert cold and makes it the Dylan show, in a good way.

The man had a magical quality live back in the old days.

Was the first and second shows that different?

Makes it even more compelling why they released this as a limited edition special if it's not all that different from the rest of the set.

Regarding the songs played no difference, but on the first night in San Diego Bob spoke more to his fans than in the twenty years before altogether.
Subject of his words is religion, so that this concert is an important part of his gospel era and should have been included in the set rather than the second San Diego show or the one Earl's Court.

Yeah, Hard Rain's not bad although I think it pales in comparison to the Rolling Thunder Revue 75 bootleg which I can't believe I forgot to mention! THAT'S maybe my favorite live performance of Dylan. If you haven't heard that, its magical. One of those bootleg series releases. He's had some incredible live periods as I said. 64-66, then like 74-77 were all fantastic.

Bob's got the "Ernest Tubb" syndrome. One of his friend once said to Peter Guralnick : "I think Ernest will die right here in the back of that damn [tour] bus!"

Dylna wants the same end for himself... hence the never ending touring.

Kinda weird they promote this as his 'religious' era but remove all his 'sermons'.

Tell Tale Signs (Vol.8) is worth your time and money if only for the two alternate versions of "Mississippi."

That is a good one, so is the very first (titled v1-3) in the bootleg series.

If you are really into that phase of his career, which few are (though I'm one of the few) then it's worth getting.

I found the 1st 3 discs fascinating...maybe a little overkill beyond that. And a missed opportunity on releasing the entire Toronto show unedited in both audio and video form.

But then again the 2 cd version was too limiting.

I'd have to say the additional San Diego limited edition add (if ordered from bobdylan.com) may only be of interest to collectors.

John Lennon wrote a song 'Serve Yourself' (released on Lennon Anthology) which mocked Dylan's Gospel period.
A bit rich really, as John was prone to take up with any fad going.

True, he even followed Billy Graham for a while.

Finally watched the DVD, wow. Band is sharp, and Dylan is so into the moment. If you have it watch past the end credits, he and a backup singer do "Abraham, Martin, and John" at the piano. Good stuff.

Bob Dylan: A Basement Tapes acetate recording, circa 1967

£1,000 - 1,500

A double-sided 12inch Emidisc with typewritten recording details, plain, die-cut card sleeve, accompanied by a letter concerning the provenance

The tracks on this acetate are all from the 1967 sessions known as 'The Basement Tapes'. All but two of the tracks listed finally appeared on the 1975 official release. However, quite soon after the recording, 'unofficial' issues of variations of more than 100 tracks from the sessions began circulating amongst the music industry and fans. This may be one of those.

Provenance:
Given to the vendor by Brian Jones in 1967/8 when she was working as the Fan Club Secretary for the band, 1964-1972.
