Where the Boys Go - video

Never saw this before - you can find it on the Archives pages of rs.com. One of my all-time fave Stones songs (Alas, I realize many others detest it). But, interesting to hear the elongated version on the video - unedited/longer guitar solo and extended outro. Very cool. I'm really hoping we get this one on the tour...

What a terrible song. This has always been one song I thought was just plain awful and I like just about everything the Stones have ever done.

strange ain't it? - It's been in my (and others too) top 10 since 1980. Go figure.

Meaning it would have worked better on SG? It wasn't written/recorded until after the '78 tour....

I always like this song and felt it was one of the better tunes on ER. I also think it would be a good one to bring out on the upcoming tour. Guitars mixed up high. Bill adds some great bottom in the mix.

This is one of my least favorite Stones songs, those extra vocals toward the end of the song are horrible. When I played this for friends not too long ago they laughed.

Yeah, you're probably right, but it doesn't work for me on this occasion. Without the women at the end it would have been way better. Would like to hear performed live though (without Lisa, that is)...

edward - did you ever hear the story of the backup vocals girls on this song? - pretty funny. you can't take this song seriously - it's meant totally tongue-in-cockney-cheek. i love it 'cos it effing rocks - one of the best examples of weaving ronnie and keef ever produced. and chawlie is absolutely amazing on this one.

Well go on T&A...whats the story?

well, as I recall it from 25 years ago - Mick decided he wanted this campy background girls chorus as a call and response kinda thing. they hadn't hired any female singers for the album - so he checks out what's happening outside the studio (NYC I believe) and finds some willing amateurs to come in and sing. If anyone else has a better recollection - please chime in....

T&A: it DOES rock! Great song, but the girls should have been left out, though the story makes it bearable...

Maybe not, but it would have suited that album better.

Mick talked about it on a BBC radio interview in June 1980 when the album came out. The backing vocalists were two or three teenage girls who were neighbours of his in New York and they wanted to be singers so he let them have a go. Their names arent recorded.

right gazza- i have that interview disc somewhere (was a DJ in those daze) - that's where I heard about the backup singers story. Remember Mick in his beard in that era? Would have been cool if he had kept it for the '81 tour....

never knew it was available as an interview disc! I actually heard it when it was originally broadcast!

I think the beard was gone by the time the album came out. Its a strange image picturing Mick onstage looking like that. Jerry Garcia would have been proud of those whiskers. If I remember right, hes wearing a beard in that "Earl Chins Rockers 80" interview filmed a few months earlier - plus he's actually bearded on the cover of "Emotional Rescue" if you look closely.
