But are the versions of "Miss You" remixes?

I ask because I'm sure that I was told once that the two shorter versions are indeed remixes, but that the (wonderful, and who could resist the disgusting pink vinyl version!) long one is a completely different take?

If only they would give a good archivist access to their session tapes the way that Mark Lewisohn was allowed access to The Beatles' tapes, then all of these questions would have answers.

Anyway, does anyone know for sure if the long version is a remix or a different take?

The LP version is the LP version which is also the US single version. The UK single version does not have saxophone in it. Whether it's just edited out, which I think it is, instead of a remix is hard to tell but they are edited differently in places that might surprise you.

The 12" is the same take - the full length of the song on the master tape is something like 10 minutes - the 12" is just unedited except for, ha ha, where they edited it. Mix wise it's also difficult to tell since that album has such a sterile sound to it.

The Beatles used more than one take to make a song; I can not recall ever reading that the Stones used different takes to make a song - they just recorded the damn thing. Of course they did multiple takes - loads of takes - but when the one was figured out to be the master they didn't mess with the other takes.

From what I know.

A unique mix of Rock And A Hard Place is on "Jump Back" compilation.

Also :
Don Was remix of Anybody Seem My baby
Todd Terry remix of Saint Of Me
Dirty Hands Remix of Sex Drive

Thanks for directing my attention to "Rock And A Hard Place" from Jump Back -
never noticed, - and absolutely different from 7"-version, -
but -
not a unique mix, - simply the album-version faded at 4.06 -
up till now, I thought the only source to this faded edit, was the
Argentinian 7" promo ! - and then it is on a worldwide compilation !
One never knows ! - smiling smiley - Thanks !

...Yep; I already mentioned that one on page 1 of this thread.
But thumbs up for adding the video! thumbs up

And remember the Dr. Dré remix of "Miss You"? For that Austin Powers (or whatshisname) film in 2002?

By unique mix I mean different version from the album version and from the single version. It took me a while to realize it's different from the regular single version too. smiling smiley

If I Was A Dancer is the exact same track as Dance from the album that features only different vocals from what I've been able to tell over the years.

By a complete coincidence I just listened to all "three" versions/parts of "Dance" a couple of weekends ago, gave them repeated close listens over and over, on repeat on the Ipod - it's more than just vocals, there are definitely some differences in the guitar tracks, and possibly the percussion and horns and other minor "extras" as well. But it sounds to me like Ron Wood is the main one who has different overdubs on guitar, there are some different licks across the three versions. The drums and bass and Keith track appear to be mostly the same.

As Kowalsky never bothered to specify his knowledge about RAAHP, concerning
the Album Version, - edited Album Version, - Single Version, - and
"Regular Single Version - ?" -
I think his statements has to be classified "Phantasy" - ? ? ?
Every "real" knowledge on the subject, - will be more
than appreciated !
