Looks like. Some of the photos would appear to break copyright through.

Why? If the copyright has expired, they can release what they want...

My bad, they aren't available in the U.S., those links must be for the U.K. or another country. You are right, though.

"It's All Over Now"
Released 26 June 1964 (UK), 25 July 1964 (US)
Recorded 10 June 1964, Chess Studio, Chicago

So still within copyright?

The releases are now available on The Stones's official Spotify-page.

Gotta be legit and/or official.

The rights to the songs are (were?) with ABKCO. None of us know if ABKCO have permitted these releases, or not.

Interesting tracks on this compilation are the IBC demos and the Mick Jagger demo "It Should Be You". Quality of the BBC recordings is not so good.

The Rolling Stones 1963 Recording Sessions - new vinyl release curiosity
Posted by: Silver Dagger ()
Date: July 23, 2014 18:32

Anybody know anything about a newly released album of the Stones 1963 recording sessions? I've seen it being advertised in a UK record shop for £17.99, pressed on 180g vinyl.

Here's the cover.

And here's the track listing.

The first six tracks were recorded between the 28th of January & the 2nd of February. Come On/I Want To Be Loved is their first 7” recorded at Olympic in London on 10th May. In the hot summer of 1963, between July and August, they recorded at the Decca Studios Poison Ivy, It Should Be, Fortune Teller. On 14th and 15th September they were in Kingsway, London for their first EP with You Better Move On, Bye, Bye, Johnny and Money. Then they came back to the I.B.C. Studios on 5th October to record: Come On, Memphis Tennessee, Roll Over Beethoven and I Just Want To Make Love To You. Two days later, in Kingsway, they recorded the last two songs of this compilation.

I believe it must be a bootleg but curious as how a legit record shop can be selling it.

Yes it is. I'd still like to know how anyone can get away with issuing this and how record sellers can sell them without lgal action?

Is it because un-copyrighted songs that were recorded more than 50 years ago now fall into the public domain?

We know that Dylan and The Beatles recently issued unreleased 1963 recordings in order to copyright them.

Anybody have any clarity on this?

I think it must be a quasi-legit release. Similar to the Jimi Hendrix live CDs that came out on a UK label. Anyhow, if this were official it would be announced all over the place, not just on Amazon (whose known to sell bootlegs). It looks like a nice piece and I want to buy it but I'm going to hold off until after it's out so I can see it.

I would say this is definitely a bootleg, although I'm not sure about un-copyrighted songs.

EDIT: Here's the label description at Discogs: Russian reissue label since 2004 for mainstream rock albums re-released on 180-gram vinyl and compact disc for Western markets. Records are manufactured at GZ Digital Media A. S. (Lod?nice, Czech Republic).

And on this thread on the Steve Hoffman forums, a user wrote this about the label: They're all bootlegs; I'm involved in trying to get them shut down for this reason on behalf of several bands.

It's amazing that retail sites like Amazon ca=n get away with this without any action taken by the bands. Presumably ABCKO or The Stones should by now have sent letters threatening legal action.

No, at least the first 5 songs ('Diddley Daddy' , 'Road Runner' , 'Bright Lights, Big City' , 'Honey What's Wrong' , 'I Want to Be Loved' [Version 2]) cannot be un-copyrighted, because they were already released in November 2012 with the 'GRRR!' Super Deluxe Box Set (March 1963 IBC Studio demos Bonus-CD).

New LP with early recordings

I haven't seen anyone mentioning this LP here :

It seems to be legit, you can buy it from amazon.uk for instance. The sound quality of the non-released material is pretty good, while the quality of the released material is not so good; I think it must be BBC recordings or something. It has 2 different versions of Come On.
