Amazing show!
Was fortunate to get the Jeff Beck VIP, and was treated to a 45 minute soundcheck with about 50 other people in an otherwise empty Greek Theater.
It was very casual, and Jeff chatted back and forth with us in between numbers. At one point he told his drummer to show us all what he's got,
and the guy blazed a hailstorm of machine gun-like fury on his set making everyone's jaws drop while Beck shook his head and laughed in disbelief and awe.
I'm not really into drum solo's by any means, but this was easily the best 30 second drum solo I've ever seen!

Some young whippersnapper named Tyler Bryant opened the show, and he played a very nice solo acoustic set tearing it up on slide.
While his guitar playing was on the mark, his vocals were kind of weak, but I suppose that can be expected for someone as young as he is.

As they always say: "Jeff keeps getting better and better", and after seeing him live numerous times throughout the years, the saying still holds true.
Every time I see him = blown away by his virtuosity, and as was mentioned previously by DEmerson and crawdaddy , the 2nd guitar player fit in well.

As for ZZ Top, have seen them several times since '83, the most recent (prior to last night) at the House of Blues front row a couple years ago.
While that was a great show, last night they seemed better and tighter...perhaps fueled by having Jeff Beck in their presence.
Maybe they'll keep getting better and better as time marches on ala Jeff Beck!

If you get a chance, see this tour!

They are starting up again soon, happily. Hairball, what time was the soundcheck? I have VIP for Kingston and I'm trying to do the logistics. Thank you for any info.

As per my post from one page back in this thread:

Picked up tickets at Will call at 3:45.
Met Karen at 4:00. Names were on list (didn't need to show tickets-just I.D.)and we were given VIP laminates.
She said come back at 5:00-ish for soundcheck. Didn't go anywhere, waited with everyone and soundcheck began apprx. 5:00.

Have a great time - wish I could do it all over again! thumbs up

Thanks very much, Hairball. Much appreciated. I did a search and just went to the last page. Once I read your previous post, it all came back to me! Very psyched. Thanks again.

Not sure if you're asking me, but I happily paid apprx. $225 for the Jeff Beck VIP soundcheck.
The soundcheck experience alone was well worth it, and then you throw in a stellar full on set by Beck and his band, followed by another great set from ZZ Top...
followed by an encore jam between the two...add a cool t-shirt, VIP laminate, and a limited/numbered Beck poster ....it all added up to one of the best deals ever!

Oh yeah - also a Jeff Beck canvas tote bag! drinking smiley

After the fiasco last summer of having VIP soundcheck tix only to have Boston being cancelled at the last minute after friggin Dusty hurts his hip - I am totally psyched to have Front Row (!) to the Boston Orpheum in a few weeks. Can't wait - fingers crossed for better luck this time! (Just Jeff this time, so that narrows the potential misshaps).

News from Jeff Beck:

JEFF BECK LIVE+ New Live Album Spanning The Legendary Guitarist’s Vast and Varied Career, Along With Two New Studio Tracks, Available May 5

New Solo Dates Announced For May,

Tour Kicks Off April 13, Includes Dates With ZZ TOP

> JEFF BECK

LOS ANGELES – Jeff Beck earned raves last year for his spellbinding performances during the hugely successful double-bill tour with ZZ TOP. Fans can relive Beck’s thrilling guitar gymnastics from those shows with a new live album that touches on key eras from the legendary artist’s influential career. The album captures a snapshot of Jeff’s work in 2014, with two newly recorded studio tracks also included, his first new music since 2010’s Grammy®-winning Emotion & Commotion.

Packed with more than an hour of music, JEFF BECK LIVE+ will be available from Atco Records, an imprint of Rhino Entertainment, on May 5 for a list price of $18.98 (CD) and will also be available digitally. The album will arrive as Beck is in the midst of an East Coast solo tour, which includes newly added dates in May. This trek also features make-up dates from the same ZZ TOP tour this album was recorded during, before it was cut short due to an injury to ZZ TOP bassist Dusty Hill.

The 14 live performances on JEFF BECK LIVE+ were recorded at multiple venues in 2014 and feature Beck backed by his band: vocalist Jimmy Hall, bassist Rhonda Smith, drummer Jonathan Joseph and guitarist Nicolas Meier. The quintet explored Beck’s vast catalog—which stretches across five decades—with performances of “Morning Dew” (from Truth, 1968), “Superstition” (from Beck, Bogert, Appice, 1973), “Big Block” (from Jeff Beck’s Guitar Shop, 1989), as well as two Grammy-winning tracks: his cover of the Beatles’ “A Day In The Life” and “Hammerhead.”

LIVE + concludes with two new studio tracks: “Tribal” and “My Tiled White Floor,” with guest vocals from Ruth Lorenzo and Veronica Bellino, respectively. These aggressive new songs mark Beck’s first studio recordings since 2010 and show a stark departure from the sound on his previous album as the guitarist continues to push the envelope of musical innovation, just as he has his entire career. These tracks are sure to whet the appetite of Beck fans as the guitarist prepares his 17th studio album, which is expected later this year.

Throughout his career, Beck has also proven to be a brilliant interpreter of other’s songs. This live album doesn’t disappoint with covers of “Danny Boy,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing,” Mahavishnu Orchestra’s “You Know You Know,” and Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.”

Beck’s career took off in the mid-1960s, after replacing Eric Clapton as lead guitarist for The Yardbirds on the recommendation of his friend Jimmy Page. He played on several of the rock group’s hits, such as “Heart Full of Soul,” “Shapes of Things” and “Over Under Sideways Down.” Beck has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: once with The Yardbirds in 1992 and again as a solo artist in 2009. He has won numerous Grammy Awards, including two in 2011.

They say something about "later this year" for a new album but I've lost count of the times that new album has been mentioned, how he said he'd found a great new direction for his songwriting, about the sessions with Brian Wilson, etc...then we get that EP for Japan that he basically disowned, none of his work with Wilson got used on his (poor album), he says he saw Wilson in a restaurant who didn't answer his greeting, weird ! Having said that I'm looking forward to listening to "Superstition" on that live album !

Hope Jeff and ZZ Top come to U.K. and Europe some time this year as a double act.

Got tix for ZZ Top at Wembley Arena June 24th, two days before I see The Who at Hyde Park.

Gonna be a great summer of music and hoping to see AC/DC for the first time as well. >grinning smiley<

After last summer's fiasco (cancelling Boston at the last minute) Sunday night I got to witness (for about the 13th time over the years) the incredible Jeff Beck at the Boston Orpheum. Me and my buddy had VIP Soundcheck which consisted of an incredible 40 minute soundcheck by Jeff and the band (we were joined by maybe 50 other people for this). Songs there included Hendrix's Red House (awesome), and Foxy Lady. He also did an excellent Ain't Superstitious. So much fun. Then we had FRONT ROW - unreal. Pics and video are up on my Facebook page is you are at all interested, or here is a local review I feel sums it up pretty well (DEspite the knock on Keith):

Awesome DEmerson, glad your wait is finally over!

"Some would argue that Clapton, Page and Richards are his equals. Hogwash.
Clapton lost the fire long ago, Page seldom tours and Richards goes through the motions
as the Stones play one ginormous stadium after another.

Nope, Beck stands alone".

TRUTH!
