Commercialism

I am NOT defeding the outrageous ticket prices of ANY band....but, it seems to me that AT LEAST w/ ticket prices & tours the bands are actually EARNING some of the money by WORKING....

that is, rather than just whoring themselves or their songs to corporate CRAP....

let's take a look:

U2 - Whoring themselves to Apple (let us count the ways)
Jane's Addiction - Whoring their songs to Coors Beer (piss in a silver can)
Allman Bros. - Whoring their music to Verizon Telecommunications (yes, if only he could've called sweet "Melissa" on his CELL PHONE, that song would've never had to have been written)
Fleetwood Mac - Whoring their music to investment companies (this is so sad, I've lost all sarcasm)
Led Zep - Whoring their music to Cadillac (one of the last few bands I thought would stay "pure" in this regard forever....apparently not)

Stones....I remember them whoring themselves to Microsoft, the NBA Finals, the NCAA tournament.....what else?

I find this type of sell-out MUCH more depressing than high ticket prices....it's pretty sad when one of your favorite groups goes from being an anti-establishment icon to selling piss-water main stream corporate BEER....or an anti-war "anthem" is used to promote basketball on TV....

I'm pretty sure that when Mick/Keef wrote "war...children...it's just a shot away" it was about larger social issues than putting a leather ball through a metal rim at $20million a year...

So....I say, stop bitching about ticket prices and kill your television....

The Who are the all-time worst offenders in this area, but you know what makes me feel really old? Aerosmith doing Buick commercials. Buick is the ultimate Old Man's Car.

And speaking of whores, who can forget this memorable lyric:

"If I was a hooker, $1,000 would be my price"

--From "Dance, Pt. I"
