I actually found myself with time on my hands, and counting them all; but then saw Kleermaker's posts. This is his baby.

As I typed those five songs I was amazed when pondering each of them how desperate sounding they all are in their own way.

Amazing really what they achieved on this record. It's got to be their most honest moment on tape.

I overdose on this album to such an extent that I typically need to put it away for months and months at a time. Only to bring it back out and marvel at it while playing nothing else for long periods of time.

The hold that this record has on some people is almost spooky. I still believe there was some sort of cosmic/supernatural stuff in the air at Nellcote when they were recording in that house. Be it from the tortured souls of those Nazi prisoners that were supposedly holed up in the basement, the owner who committed suicide there or some spirits Anita was surely trying to summon...

I always point to two other albums that were recorded in supposedly haunted mansions when trying to understand Exile's allure - the RHCPs Blood Sugar Sex Magic a which was recorded at a supposedly haunted mansion in Hollywood & Ace Frehley's 1978 solo album which was head and shoulders above and beyond anything he ever did again (recorded at the supposedly haunted Colgate Mansion in Sharon, Ct) All three albums have a consistently unique vibe that was unlike anything else they ever put on tape...

It's nice to see all the love for Torn And Frayed! It wasn't on my list, but it sure was close making it

And the over-all high quality of the material. For that reason it feels like choosing between your children, when trying to pick up five 'best'. I made my "Sophie's Choice", but alraedy now feel like letting down so many other beloved ones...

Surprising that 'Rocks Off' is tops on this particular list. I know it's the opening track on the album and distinctive (opening riff and Jagger's vocals), but to me imo it sounds like a throwaway. Especially compared with the other tracks on the album.

Of those which didn't make it, I think the biggest surprises were "Happy" and "All Down The Line" - probably they are too obvious and familiar, since I guess most of us see them classical Stones songs.

Should have never been dropped so soon live in 72, was good on its way to being great already.

I´m surprised Stop Breaking Down got so few votes/mentions...
