Whatever the case may be, whatever you feel about Mick Taylor, he's a far better instrumentalist..a virtuoso...than a composer and singer. Is that so bad, really? The classical music world is chock-a-block with virtuosos who don't (or aren't known for) their singing or composing skills..just do what they do best. Some may perform as guest soloists, but most don't. So MT has done well from that standpoint, without regret, except; of course, his lifestyle choices that more than likely precluded him from having a very successful post-Stones career.

He wasn't. Someone like John McLaughlin was, or later on Steve Vai.

That's the problem in being strikingly good in one thing. A bit like Mick Jagger as a front man/performer. His skils in that front seem to cast a shadow to many other things he does in his life (such as song-writing), but which are not so strikingly extraordinary in compared to others.

All those 'kind of good in everything, but not strikingly good in anything' Ronnie Woods of this world do not have this problem...grinning smiley

So true, so true. But the mediocre talents, if you will, still make big bucks (or quids, or euros). Unfortunately,MT didn't do so well in that department. Well, I believe when he left the Stones he was well off. Neon Leon said in an interview in Mudkiss Magazine that he lived with Mick and Rose Taylor for awhile in 1976. They lived in a mansion in the English countryside replete with farm animals! Doubt Taylor was a gentleman farmer milking cows and shoveling manure at 5:00 am! It's a shame, really. He got so caught up in that lifestyle..and not in a good way, either.

By the way, I love reading your posts Doxa. You're one intelligent and eloquent individual. Merry Christmas!smiling smiley
