wild horses on stripped

IS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL. TO MY MIND, MAGIC AND FEELINGS ARE INCREDIBLE in that version. THE SAME WITH "LOVE IN VAIN". (INCREDIBLE BOTTLENECK OF RON and MICK's harp)

It's definitely the best version of this song ever - for me!

Its wonderful.
But they havent themselves - IMHO - come near Gram Parsons breathless version with The Flying Burrito Brothers from 1970... Or maybe they will, in 2005-06... ?

A different version of Wild Horses from the Stripped sessions with Ronnie on electric guitar instead of acoustic can be found on

"Ich Mochte Euch Bis Nach Koln Horen" VGP 216

Keith's guitar is tuned to a slighly different version of open g on this track which gives it that wonderful ringing sound.Try GGDGBD.

Ian.

The only thing that I don't like about the Stripped version is they don't sing the "Wild Horses" long enough like the original. The live version on the Babylon DVD with Dave Matthews is sung more correctly like the original.
For a cover version of the song, I really like The Sundays version.

It's not different; As always it's GDGBD (without the Low E-string). On the Licks-tour he used the same tuning with a 12-string guitar.

Look closely at the video and you'll see Keith is playing on an acoustic with 6 strings on. The lower (E) string would normally be tuned to D, but Keith tunes it to G.

Ian.

i like it better than the original too, just beacuse...it is stripped down and taken a little bit further away from its country root

The best version ever is Knebworth 1976, with a f a n t a s t i c Ronnie!

Shezeboss I just cant belive you posted this- I was thinking exactlly the same thing. I just re-discovered Stripped last week after 10 years and I had forgotten how great it is, 3 songs in particular : Angie, Wild Horses and especially Love in Vain, although I wish I didn't have to listen to the talking everytime after the boo-boo.

Some on here will be upset that anyone dare suggest a version with Wood is better than the original. However, this version is excellent. Great ring to the guitars.

Actually a custom made Guild 10-string acoustic.

Best versions ever are the outtake with the hauntingly beautifyl pedal steel by Pete Kleinow from 1970, and the Knebworth version, which must be one of Ron's best ever guitar bits on a Stones track.

So it was Sneaky Pete? That´s what I thought. Great version!

Is that the version on Alternate Sticky Fingers that mentioned Gram Parsons on pedalsteel?

Beautiful version indeed!

Thanks Mathijs,

I was waiting for your 'official' input. Unfortunately I don't have a custom made Guild 10 string so I use a 6 string standard electro-acoustic instead!

Ian.
