Techniques is blindedly quick today...

TC was 1971:s King of Vegas; had threee smash hits ot whome I remember "Dont Go Down to Reno" & "...Amarillo" was the most smashing... I found that the geezer is still goin... I´m not so sure I´d love him so much now as I did as a 7-year-old. But he was King of Cool back in -71, with only two others on competing thrones (if we dont count the ever so cool but at that point maybe too speedy for a little kid, I mean the Glimmer Twins...): Elvis & Tom Jones.

...if you visit his site you understand why I dont post new pics here...

The only new release that's captured my attention is Springsteen's "Devils & Dust", which continues on themes developed in "The Rising". Bruce is getting more spiritual as he ages, which doesn't necessarily turn me off--his sense of secular humanism has not diminished in his exploration of the human condition. It is food for thought, and light years ahead of the pap that is cram-fed to the kids on top 40 radio and MTV.

Yeah, I do believe that music should sometimes show a social consciousness, but not exclusively. Even the deepest thinkers sometimes need to kick off their shoes and rock their blues away LOL.

And Tom Waits - Mule Variations The best album of last 10 years IMHO.

Agree with straycatuk on 40 licks-- the original version of "Honky Tonk Women" is as close to a perfect rock song as I've ever heard, and is still my all-time favorite Stones studio song.

Ohh this is good:
Arcade Fire "Funeral"
Nick Cave the entire catalogue with the new 3 CD set taking most played
Lucinda Williams "Essence",
Primal Scream "XTRMNTR", "Evil Heat" and "Vanishing Point"
Mercury rev, Neutral Milk Hotel, Decemberists,Flaming Lips, Mars Volta, Thrills, Lindesy Buckingham, James brown "Star Time" (always!), Wagner "Meistersinger",Doninzetti "Norma", Velvet Underground "Loaded", Ornette Coleman and my new fave Rockrecord The Music "Wecome to the North"
Yes the Stones alwats will rule but there is much much great music out there. Being written new every day. I wonder sometimes when everyone only listens to 25 yearold records.

...Maybe you were in the wrong age. Perfect for 7-year olds.
Still like it now though,
even if turd´s case of "Mrs Turds´s playing it all the time"
maybe not sound so nice... Esp. if its the recent Christie she plays.

Different Ranks in different countries; in Sweden it was a smash it, I can assure you that, cause it has been on Radio Gulds playlist since at least 2000-2001, and they play mainly hits. I dont have the 1971 lists available, but I didnt go to Scotland to hear it some local pub, that´s for sure... The radio policy in my country of which foreign songs to play, was very strict and mostly list-bounded.
...Dont tell me you didnt hear Lobo either? Or Terry Jacks? Or Soley Soley with Middleoftheroad?

My friend & me were fighting roughly with the fists about how many "Shala-la-la-la-la-la-laaah" it was on "...Amarillo" while singing it in the hobby room in the cellar of our concrete suburbian house.

Sweden had a fairly fast breakthorugh in Sweden, Stones morte of an average. Peculiar to mention is that Little Red Rooster didnt become a hit song here, 'cause the list program at then had a rule that each group could contribute with maximum two songs, and they already had two songs at that point.

I know Tony Christie - he is one of the people that grandmothers love so much, and he is constantly on various talk shows, singing "Amarillo"

Oh yes Middle of the road! LOL "You're in Sacramento a wonderful town..." or Lobo "Baby "I'd love you to want me...". I dig all that early 70's Euro crap too. Or wasn't Lobo Americo though? "Me and you and a dog named BOO!!" Dig it.
What about "Sing Sing Barbara" . Anyone know that one? And all the Aphrodite's Child catalogue?
Hairball, so you like Beethoven's 8th? That was one of Ludwig's favorites too. He was quoted as saying about his 8th "Everyone makes such a fuss about the 5th and the 9th, when they should hear my little short one..."
I myself have never liked the 5th and 3rd too much. I really love the 6th, 7th and 8th.

If we should trust TC:s own site:

1971 brought him his first international hits with the songs " Las Vegas ", " I did what I did for Maria ", "Don't go down to Reno" and " Is this the way to Amarillo ". These songs kept Tony in the British charts for no less than 41 weeks out of 52; this fact alone established him as one of the World's major recording stars.

From [www.tonychristie.com].

Personal stuff: Tony Christie was born, Anthony Fitzgerald on the 25th of April 1943 in Conisborough, South Yorkshire.

If you´re into lightweight stuff from 1961, 62, 63, 64, 1971 (and all the other years between 1957 and 1980 - but the former years is my own shows); you should listen to Radio Guld, where we broadcast "Året var" = The Year Was...-series during summer... I´ll give you tha dates & the broadcasting schedule as soon as I got it.

[www.guld.nu] (click: Lyssna Live!" = Listen live)

.-..The heavy & rocky & rolly in Stones music gets more visible & audible with the fond of these cornflakes music (which I also love so much).

Ya, I've heard the LOBO stuff, I'm in the States. I don't think 'Amarillo' was a hit here, for sure not a 'smash', (must be a european thing), I don't know that I've even heard it! I went all over the web last night trying to find some place I could listen to it, couldn't find any place to do that, not even his own website.

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

Their Satanic Majesties Request....again. This time it worked out quite fine. I've had the album ever since it was released, but like most I've had my troubles with it. This time I listened to it just after re-listening to Small Faces "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake". That sort of put me right back into 1967-1968. And then it worked. Even Gomper smiling smiley
Also watching Jimi Hendrix at RAH. Fantastic. Heartbreaking.
Led Zeppelin for the past 6 months. I'm really digging deep into all of their records and other stuff. For some odd reason I stopped liking them after their fourth album. Now I just cannot get enough.
And I've also just got an amazing dvd with Dionysis Savvopoulos....but I guess nobody knows him here. Just as I don't know the Hungarian and Czech artists mentioned by Wild Slivovitz ( apart from US Klezmatics of course ) ...but they sure sounds interesting.
Latest greatest Stones-listening: Shepherd's Bush. Excellent.
