What was the last great rock song keith wrote that had substance and depth

What was the last great rock song keith wrote or jagger that had great substance
and depth. Can,t include ballads or pop trends that jagger was following.

Most here mock Taylor's writing but Taylor has wrote some great rockers that
have substance.

Twisted Sister
Broken Hands
Stranger In This Town(one of his greatest WA WA Solos of all time)
Leather Jacket
SW5

On Stanger in this town Taylor refers to Loving Cup and Hide your Love was
he saying something to the glimmers who know just seems odd that he would put
titles of songs in his lyric.

LowDown
You Got Me Rocking
Love Is Strong
Don't Stop
Wicked As It Seems

BTW, Leather Jacket is pure crap, whether it is the version Taylor dug up in 1979, or the version on "Ultra Rare Tracks" from 1969.

As far as I'm concerned, Taylor never wrote "a rocker with great substance
and depth".

love is strong is a remake of wicked as it seems or vice a versa.

I´m also in for Hate it... A smasher!
Everything Keeftser´s done has substance & depth.
The light-weight stuff is usually Jagger´s.
But the highlights - esp. lyrically - is also the latters.
If you really listen to "You Dont Have To Mean It" is has sh*it loads of substance & depth...

A lot of Jagger written songs are mentioned.
Don't stop, Saint of Me, Evening Gown.

IMHO Keith hasn't written a decent tune since Voodoo Lounge. Jagger might have written some 'light weight stuff', but he's responsible for some of their best songs of the 90s.
I don't like it when Keith is doing these jazzy, emotional songs... I don't even think they're any good. Losing My Touch... he should be ashamed of that one.

i think openG meant rock song...........not stuff like Hate It.........and Worst.

And OpenG....never mind Taylor...what do YOU think was Richard's last great rock song, (if I may be so bold....)

What was the last great rock song keith wrote that had substance and depth?

Anything Taylor never had the talent to write.
That would mean all of them.

kyle m

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

Are you saying Keith hasn't written a decent song for the Stones since 75-76? No way, man! There's plenty of them.

Don't know how Taylor could be brought up in this thread when talking about Keith's writing skills. Taylor was a horrible song writer and Keith is one of the best ever. To answer the question asked in the topic, a few songs that come to mind are Flip The Switch, Low Down, You Don't Have To Mean It.

Bowie Stone wrote: "--- IMHO Keith hasn't written a decent tune since Voodoo Lounge. Jagger might have written some 'light weight stuff', but he's responsible for some of their best songs of the 90s."

I had written: "Everything Keefster´s done has substance & depth.

(now emphazised afterwards the word highlights).

So we´re on the same line, right? Not that I discussed Voodoo; but I could maybe buy that... But saying he didnt write anything "that had substance and depth" since 1975-76 is far out.

The burning question should be (for the outstanding songwriting team Jagger-Richards): How does it feel so be living underneath the shadow of such a monstrous song treasure these blokes created. When can they ever reach the 60´s och the 70´s level?

OpenG,

Yes, Hand Of Fate is wonderful. But also for Perkins surely.

AND RW DOES play on Crazy Mama. Its the slithering, lifting stuff and it's one of my favourite RW Stones' moments.

In fact that album (a personal favourite) shows they could use any other guitarist. The songs were strong (imo). But it's the character of the lead guitar which makes the real difference, be it Mandell, Perkins or even......Wood.

From same era.......Zulu Warrior......with Keith and your preferred person, (Wood on bass?).

You Don't Move Me

They lyrics are brilliant, and the guitrar interplay, or "weave", is exceptional.

He doesn't make 'em like that anymore.
