These guys at www.huntleyarchives.com seem to have over more than two hours of pro shot 1970 Stones footage!
Would love to see it all!
Great post Mack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I wish there was audio, but thats ok, its still a great document of the excitement and energy during this period.
1970 tour is such a powerhouse musically speaking. I listened to the Paris 1970 show today and I had mixed in a couple from another 1970 show that sounded as good to round out the setlist and satisfaction from Stockholm.
I think, funny enough, that Ya-Ya's is the most influential album during this wonderful period of Stones history. On the 1970 tour then sang and played more similiar to Ya-Yas than the 1969 shows. (understanding that Ya-Ya's is from NYC 69 and Detriot 69, etc.)
In 1970, Keith sings back up on Jumpin Jack's chorus similiar to Ya-Yas. Pretty sure his vocal is an overdub. I don't remember any '69 shows where he is helping on the vocal. Also during JJF, Jagger is singing the chorus rather than the speaking type style he utilized on the '69 tour.
A few other instances is little Mick's solo on Sympathy, emulating more Ya's-Ya's than actual solos during the '69 tour. And of course he is maturing as a guitarist and spread his wings . . . The Rambler from Paris is one of my favorites.
Its intersting that the production on Ya-Yas sort of set in place their standard at the time. Its a high standard to meet, but during the 1970 tour, this band is hot. I wish we had a good soundboard bootleg during this period.
All in all, the band is changing their sound and it may have even started during that 2nd half of the '69 tour, but I think they sound tighter and more confident in 1970. Certainly, a natural progression in the evolution of this band and a little help from Ya-Yas!
