Anyway, do you want to take that stuff with you into your grave if need be? What a waste!

Exactly what I was thinking yesterday and I'm sure a lot of stuff has been lost like that already...Chuch Magee's wife's decision to make the SW sessions available via a friend in 2006 is certainly very commendable from a fan's point of view!

@Videojames - thanks for clarifying

I understand what you are saying, and I back your decision to keep stuff private 100%.

I for one thing don't understand it from a Stones fan point of view. When i got hold of the Paris 67 show (it was not released on boot at that time, but only available on casstte) I immediatly copied it for any one I knew, free of charge. Because for me as a Stones fan I wanted all the other people who loved the Stones to get the oppertunity to hear the Stones as they sounded in that year of psychedelic music, and ofcourse the last tour with Brian. And if I could get my hands on NME 68 I would do the same, even if I had to pay a large sum for it myself. Because this stuff is meant for people to see listen to and enjoy.

However from a business point of view, it might well be that if a "trader" did this with "valuable archive" material other "traders" won't want to do business with you anymore because by putting those "valuable archive" material out in the open for free, you may destroy the business for other traders who want to keep that particulair martial exclusive for trading purposes. But, hell, I don't like that attitude personaly. Greed is the sickness of the world (no offence intended). Anyway, do you want to take that stuff with you into your grave if need be? What a waste!

Don’t forget that in the old days a non-circulating tape simply had value. If you had a certain show you could release it yourself, or sent it to labels like VGP and Swinging Pig/Dandelion and you either got money or a bunch of bootlegs you could sell. A simple upgrade of a known source easily could earn you 1000 euro, a new SB show 5000 euros. That has changed all now, as a bootleg release hardly sells anymore. This Brixton soundboard that will be released on CD will be available as download the next day on this site, and only a few people will bother to buy the CD’s.

A reason for people having stuff they don’t want to share often simply is that you receive something in a trade, or in confidence, with the message ‘I don’t want you to spread it for such and such reason’. That’s it then, there’s nothing you can do. But there’s a bit of a rule that you then don’t brag about it. That’s why I reacted to Videojames (Karnbach) like I did on his Love in Vain answer. I think it is just hideous you brag about something you have while you know for sure very few people will have it.

Concerning Karnbach’s removed thread yesterday: there was mention of several shows or tapes that he claims he had before they were released, and that this proves he has all the stuff he claims. This is not entirely the case in my opinion: most of these sources where already known to exist years before Karnbach claimed them. Things like the Australia ’66 radio broadcasts where known to exist way back in the 70’s, and it was just a matter of time they would pop up in reasonable quality. The same with Good Bye Girl and the Chess tracks: from studio logs we quite know what has been recorded, and it only would be a matter of time it would be released. Paradiso 95 soundboard: of course it exists, I have listened to it myself. Just as the three Rotterdam 1973 shows in soundboard, 30 minutes of Amsterdam 1970 in pro-shot color, a slew of ’77 to ’83 tapes. Will it be released one day? Sure, just wait for it.

I am sure Karnbach has loads of stuff that hasn’t surfaced yet, or isn’t even known yet. There’s hundreds of shows that have been recorded, and only 20% of them is available. But I am just very doubtful of some claims. Claims of professional video’s of shows that weren’t filmed, mentioning names of studio tracks that are just nothing more than working titles. The full NME 68 show while as far as is known it wasn’t filmed professionally, and only very brief snippets where broadcast on the ‘Time for Blackburn’ show.

Let’s hope one day it will all be released.

I see, makes sense although it kinda sucks, cause it means that a lot of stuff will stay locked up forever...or until a kind selfless soul like Chuch Magee's wife comes along and shares unknown stuff.

How about the 52' Bondy public rehearsal, does that have any value?
I understand, I would like to listen more songs from the vaults but at one point, why all these tons of discussion about these songs. We have just to wait and perhaps nothing will come too, because somewhere they must consider these songs as not so good or perfect. Do we include in our private photos books our blurred pictures from family or vaccations. But I would like to listen to them too hahaha!

maybe i'm in the minority, but i certainly don't lose any sleep knowing their are treasures out there which are being withheld from the masses by various traders.
To be honest, the longer my life drags on the least interest I have with obscure songs/performances from The Rolling Stones.
I feel the relevance of having these "treasures" diminishes each day. And like what Mathijs has mentioned above, there's not alot of $$ to be made anymore.
Sure, if something "new" popped up I'd have a listen/watch - like the 1973 Brussels #2 show which i have listened to about 5 times (compared to the corresponding bootleg of the first show which I listened to about 1000 times when it first came out).
But gone are the days I'd crack a stiffy in anticipation of a hidden gem landing in the mail...
good luck to all !

Demographics may strike a deadly blow to hoarders : they sued to think their hidden gem was worth a fortune but each day that passes erodes the value of the "gem".

Plus the fact that the band have finally decided to open the vaults may be an extra threat to hoarders. I'm sure the guy who owns the Brixton SB/video hears the rumors that Eagle Rock plans to release some 95 club shows on DVD...

I was at the local dump yesterday, and watched the van next to me unloading the contents of somebody's home - somebody's life - into the skips, including a fine array of running trophies that must have been the pride of their late owner but had no commercial value. Hoarders beware - make sure that if you are going to keep those tapes or videos or whatever uncirculated until the day you die (and we could all fall under the proverbial bus at any age) that the right people know you have them and know what value they have in certain circles.

Or are you planning to be buried with them, like an Egyptian Pharaoh? (Epitaph: I've STILL got something nobody else has seen!)

As they promised us rain for today, I spent yesterday tackling the jungle at the bottom of my garden, so I was disposing of a load of greenery. They don't let you hunt for treasure at the tip (they recycle lots of stuff themselves to make money for the Council) but some of the things you see thrown away are sad.

(PS: this thread has got pretty far away from topless girls, hasn't it!)

Pretty depressing, but yeah, it's like stuff you see in "antique shops" in the countryside, somebody's stuff being passed on, sometimes old letters, pretty pathetic, not that it really matters to the deceased I suppose...I remember seeing pics of when Waylon Jennings auctioned off his stuff, seemed strange, but at least he got rid of it when he wanted to.

I don't know what it is about the Stones' music that inspires women to remove their clothes.

I think it's a myth anyway, I've sang Sweet Neocon to numerous girls but nothing was removed.

If you sang that one it's possible you were removed.
