They only rehearsed it, unfortunately. Perhaps it wasn't working in practice, or maybe we'll hear it on future legs of the tour.

I'm assuming you meant 'I heard it through the grapevine' ?

Mick was a huge fan of Marvin Gaye.
And, of course, many of you have heard the Stones version of "Just My Imagination," one of the best Temptations songs ever.

I was really looking forward to it. When Fogerty was announced I was certain they would have him perform on it! Curious why it never got played live..

I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - 1966

Penned by Norman Whitfield and Barret Strongthe song was given
to Smokey to cut as a demo/guide track for other artists to follow.

Glady's Knight recorded and released her take of it in
1967 with Marvin Gaye later recording his version in 1968...

It's really hard to beat the CCR version...........they should have covered in '69 ................

"i heard it to the grapine"

Wasn't there a thread about misunderstood lyrics some time ago?

I'm not getting good reception on the grapine either.

You might like this. The Funk Brothers were the in-house band at Motown. The Andantes were the in-house backup singers. This recording of "Heard It Through the Grapevine" strips Marvin Gaye from the recording so you can hear just how good the Funk Brothers and Andantes were:

Nothing beats the 12 minute version by CCR...

Marvin Gaye's version is the definitive one IMO. I honestly never cared for the CCR version. Im curious to hear what kind of treatment the Stones gave it.
