A new exhibition will give people the chance to marvel at photographs, artwork, music and other memorabilia from Eel Pie Island’s heyday.
The exhibition was curated by Michele Whitby, a long-term resident of the island and co-author of the book Eel Pie Island, along with Twickenham’s contemporary Eel Pie Club and local arts and education charity Aurora Metro.
Starting at the Stables Gallery, this event includes a tour of the Twickenham area where music history was made and a talk and Q&A with Gina Way, from the contemporary Eel Pie Club, who went to the famous Eel Pie Island Hotel dancehall as a teenager.
Don Craine, from the Downliners Sect, and Zoe Howe a contemporary music journalist will also speak at the event.
Passes are free but guests must reserve tickets online.
Eelpiland tour; Stables Gallery, Riverside, Twickenham; August 1 to September 29; Tuesday to Saturday 1pm to 5.30pm, Sunday and Bank Holidays 2pm to 5.30pm; Free; Visit bit.ly/eel-pie.
The Richmond & Twickenham Times seems a bit vague about exact times - I think it's the exhibition in the Stables Gallery that runs from 1st August to 29th September, but there is certainly a guided tour happening on Saturday 3rd August: book here:[
