Just posted on the easytree site, too bad, this was a great site:

Hello gals and guys,

We're very sorry having to tell you that we had to shut down EZT forever just a couple of minutes ago.

We got a call from our provider, they had received a few letters from a couple of lawyers. They requested EZT to be shut down immediately, otherwise we and the hosting service would be sued.

As you may imagine, we do not have the funds to fight a battle we most probably can't win anyway.

We would like to thank everyone here for their contributions to EZT, one way or the other, for sharing the music, sharing an ideal, for all your mails, rants, praises...

To say it with Joan Armatrading:

We had fun, fun, fun, fun
fun, fun, fun, fun
we had fun -- while it lasted...
--"Tall in the Saddle"--

You all take good care!

The EZT team

How stupid!

Take my personal case. Since I started dloading music from the net I was able to listen to an incredible variety of different music. From a musical / cultural point of view I grew a lot.

The music-biz and not only had only to benefit from this situation.

I bought a great mass of CDR / DVDR (the price of each CD you buy includes a certain amount that pays copyright)

I also bought a lot of original CD's from artists I had not even heard of before

I went to see concerts of bands that learnt to appreciate through free downloading.

I purchsed larger HDrives

I purhased a broadband connection

Can't people open their eyes and see that free dloading is not ripping off anyone?

p.s. I know that there are other sites, but WTF: are the nazi's back?

It is sad news indeed, especially after the stop of sharingthegroove a few months before.

Sharing bootlegs is a great thing : less money going the mafias, more money available for official records, taxed CDRs, etc...

As long as the artists and the majors won't make a difference between massively downloading official stuff, which is causing predjudice to artists and record companies and downloading stuff they aren't selling, we'll be confronted to these kind of problems.

Still, the downloading of live recordings ain't 100% legal. The artists don't get credits, and they have no control of their image and work, but there may be a few thousands of addicts downloading live recordings, compared to the millions of Kazaa users...

Are there other great sites like that?

When sharingthegroove disappeared, some people obviously managed to get the source programme, made slight changes, and reopened it somewhere else under a new name.
I hope some people may have the same idea with Easytree...

Most important is not to communicate the sites' adresses too often on forums, because it could accelerate their shutdowns.

Well, registering was impossible the last months.
They had over 100,000 users and there was no 'room' for more people.

Did you get kicked off the tracker? Usually the tracker is still up though the website is down.

It's back... although you won't be able to download much yet, as there are very few seeders around.
