I did a post on Lies a few days ago, and someone esle has a post going on editing VL. Now I love Lies, but not many did, so how about a substitution? How about Hang Fire or Fiji Gin instead of Lies? Hang Fire was mixed at the tme (as KR played a version for Roy Carr). Fiji Gin wasn't finished (that I know of), but a good groove nontheless. AS for ER, how about: Claudine for Indian Girl Black Limouisine for Down in the Hole We Had It All for All About You. Just a thought. Mind you, I love all the songs I'd be getting rid of, so I'm not getting rid of anything I dislike. Comments? Suggestions?
I have no doubt that once the touring days are over, we will see the rarities released, giving us the chance to make our own alternate album mixes. A Rolling Stones Anthology, like the set the Beatles gave us? Yeah, why not. Call it "Licks Unlocked" or something.
Despite being slightly weaker than the rest, I think "Lies" belongs on "Some Girls"for it's attitude alone. Its a great "@#$%& you" companion piece to songs like "Some Girls" and "Respectable". All raunch and attitude.
I wouldnt change SG at all, even though I like many of the outtakes. If they ever repackaged it however, whilst I'd keep the original album, I'd love a bonus disc of the unedited versions of the 10 songs. The first four tracks alone would clock in at 36 minutes. Add on "Everything is turning to gold". Never fully appreciated it until I bought the remastered Sucking In the 70's last week. Fantastic.
I much prefer the TY version of Hang Fire to the early outtakes. They simply go on far too long and dont go anywhere. They just dont sound finished, either. It doesnt work as a 6 minute song.
Half of ER isnt up to par in my opinion. Send it to me, Indian Girl and the title track are clunkers. The only reason why Claudine wasnt released was for litigation issues. They still couldnt release it, so its a moot point arguing about substituting another song for it.
Having (again) listened to Sucking in the 70's in its remastered form, I can barely take Dance Pt 2 out of my cd player. I liked Pt 1 but this blows it away. Mix them together and treat us to a 10 minute funk workout
Hey tomk; Nice idea, but - What were in your Sunday drink? All About You is one of the greatest Stones songs ever! The whole town of mine knows it, too (powerful car stereo).
