Songs they have a shot of playing are ones that people have the slightest idea about. No one aside from hardcores know Slave.

Yeah a song from one of their two biggest selling albums. Topped the charts and sold over 4 million copies in the US alone. Not a chance too many would know it then.

and remember that one must KNOW a song at a concert to enjoy it...we can't have any of this "let's play something great that they don't know and they'll love it." that's for bands that will never be great like the stones.

Why would they play that crappy song? There's about a hundred songs in line to be heard before Slave.

Rock bands still do that.
Million-dollar Corporate Entities like Walmart, McDonalds and The Rolling Stones... they don't.

I was just watching Stones in the Park last night and reading my diary entry for the day, and remembering how Mick introduced Sympathy by saying we wouldn't know it because it was off their new album which wasn't out yet, and then they played it and the audience was going nuts banging cans and boxes (and some people had even brought tambourines, it being 1969) and it was amazing. We didn't know most of the songs. JJF had come out two days before. It was one of the best days ever, and I didn't notice or give a shit if anyone's guitar was out of tune.
Sorry, wandering off-topic. As you were.

That's actually HTW. I read that the 45 was given out to folks who hung around and picked up trash after the show. I'm happy to do that if they'll play Slave in Philly.

I thought the Rolling Stones were and still are a blues and rock and roll band not a disco band.
First Emotional Rescue and now maybe Slave? It won't rock it sucks!
