Jack - Why are you making another foolish list?? Heaven is a better gong than Satisfaction??? You are hitting the crack pipe!!!
We all need to remember that the Stones were a blip on the radar screen until Satisfaction. Satisfaction is by no means my favorit song but put it into the context of the time it was released. The fuzz box was different, it is full of energy amd angst. It is the song that made the Rolling Stones. Yes we have all heard it a million times but I would have to say that Satisfaction is the greates Rolling Stones song. The riff alone makes it killer.

Jumping Jack Flash
Ruby Tuesday
Gimme Shelter
Sympathy for the Devil
Brown Sugar
Tumbling Dice

I am one who wants to hear Let it Loose, Rip this Joint and other 'special rare' songs. But, there is a reason why they are the 'warhorses'(except Ruby Tuesday). They are epic songs.

And, that is why I usually enjoy the song list.

This list alone deserves its own thread.

Some of my many main offenders:
- Satisfaction is not 1, or 2, but 98 places below "Time Waits for No One"
- Had It With You is 16 places above It's Only RNR
- Rocks Off is 17 places below "Continental Drift"
- Loving Cup is 65 places below One Hit to the Body

although i will add i respect you for posting the list, and find it fascinating that there can be such wide opinions of their work from their fans. i guess it's a testament to the breadth of their work. or something.

Like A Rolling Stone - has no place on that list, - it's a Bob Dylan song and Stones cover version is mediocre at best, even Jimi Hendrix did a better cover version of that song. And to put Dont BE A stranger on that list proves one thing JumpinJackOLantern is puffing his crackpipe again.

The Stones's cover is perfection, one of those live recordings where everything works, imo.

Trim it down to a "top 20" and you'll be realistic.

Otoh thinking that the same 2 guys wrote 20 MASTERPIECES is mind-blowing! smileys with beer

Are they in order? is " I Am Waiting" really greater than "Wild Horses" or CYHMK?

Gimme Shelter is #1, that's just a fact.

The only others that come close are: Sway, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Moonlight Mile, Sweet Virginia, Let It Loose, Soul Survivor. Laugh I Nearly Died is close.

It's amazing how much crack is presumed in this thread...

Why didn't Crackin' Up make the meaningless list ?

IMO, JJF and Gimme Shelter are clearly the best. After them, we can discuss about everything...

PS: Personally, i consider Dead Flowers as the most underatted Stones song. IMO, DF deserves a position on Top 10 Stones songs. It's one of the two best country -rock song ever, to me. The other is Joplin's "Me and Bobby Mc Gee".

DandelionPowderman, totally agree! The Stones cover version of "Like A RS" is amazing.

#3. Till The Next Goodbye

Considering the number of "farewell" threads posted by this individual, it's not hard to see why this would be one of his favorites.

#107.Beast Of Burden & all other songs except Honky Tonk Woman and Back To Zero which tied for worst Rolling Stones song ever.

Can't understand for the life of me how anyone could think HTW was their worst song, though.

I truly think that has to be one of the most bizzare statements ever..totally agree in fact I will say straight up Honky Tonk Women is the greatest song the Rolling Stones have ever done (for my money). In fact I have often said it may be the most perfect rock and roll song ever. Three minutes and three seconds of everything you need to know if someone were to ever ask you what is Rock and roll....I say play this song...always amazed how anyone Stones fan could think otherwise....

I personally think JJF has NEVER been as good as it was in 1969...I have also never like the fact that they have never played the proper intro to the song live to my knowledge (maybe the Rnr Circus?)...

HTW is easily one of the Stones best songs. The drum intro alone makes the song great. I wish they would play it right live its become a little boring liv but always a crowd pleaser.

Fight a better song than Honly Tonk Woman are you fu**ing serious??????????

I never really liked the way they do it live, but the studio version is the best record they've ever made, which doesn't necessarily mean it's their best song. Sometimes the song and the record are two different things. That's why there's separate grammy awards for song of the year and record of the year. In the case of HTW, it's the record that's pure perfection.

To have two songs in the no. 1 spot, and one of them isn't even written by the Stones. Seems very strange.

I am not kidding when I say that I never liked HTW. I actually can't stand it, never could. I do realize though that it is one of the most popular Stones songs among the vast majority of casual and hardcore fans.

I agree that Don't Stop is way underrated. It's one of those "feel good tunes" that I can never get enough of.
