the elephant in the room-CYHMK

i don't mean to detract from the fact that 'Midnight Rambler' is a great way to feature Mick Taylor. great long form blues opera, yes its awesome.

but- with Bobby Keys and Mick Taylor, can't help but think 'Can't You Hear Me Knockin' would be the one to do..

maybe its just too much to ask for...but why not bring them on and really perform that song in all its glory.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought that you were quoting the brilliant lyrics of Sad Sad Sad.

The elephant's in the bedroom
Throwing all his weight about
And I'm locked in the bathroom
Your screams are gonna drown me out

If they do CYHMK, wouldn't they drop MR?

A show with both would be supreme!

They could even segue out of a Jam into the end of it , to save precious time, gimme us the end jam at least.

When I saw the thread title I thought it was another cheap shot at Mick Taylor's weight.

Sway is the real elephant in the room. It is a pure Mick+Mick composition...Keith was not there. I like Sway a lot more plus CYHMK has a large Keith component. But both are OK and would be great to see Stones do it this tour

no but it could be read that way ...certainly not intended, Taylor has done more for this tour than I would say most people at the shows realize

You were there when the song was written? Keith faxed in his backing vocals on the studio version?

plus if they play this they could bring those congas back out.

I love CYHMK and would love to hear it... but if it's between that and Midnight Rambler it's not even close. MR is a necessity. Probably my all time favorite Stones song. It's probably the one I'm looking forward to the most.

It is known that Keith did not play on Sway. MT and MJ on guitar.

Well Sway and Moonlight Mile are halfway to the setlist, now that they're on the LV fan vote. There's a handful of tunes that would be criminal if Taylor didn't play on, and those are at the top of the list.

My comment was too extreme. Keith sings background vocals on it, most likely layed down after the two Micks put it together. No Keith guitar on it that I know of

wikipedia--
Although the song is credited to Jagger/Richards, Mick Taylor has always stated that he wrote this song with Jagger, as well as "Moonlight Mile" from the same album, when Richards was not even present.

Sensible remark but if MJ lets MT play on this one, he kinda opens a can of worms, like "you co-wrote this one but you screwed you".

Not sure Jagger wants to be sued this year by Taylor. Rambler is a much safer choice.

MickT should have sued years ago. Mathew Fisher sued circa 2006 and won so now he gets royalties from Whiter Shade of Pale. This was 35+ years after it came out. Nice to get those checks in the mail especially when past 60 years old.

If the Stones pay MickT a million pounds on up for this tour then they will have rectified this situation

I've been a big defender of Keith's fingers over the last 18 months, but that CYHMK opening is a finger workout. Go back to the last time they did it, I think it was '03, don't remember. He pulled it off OK, but that sting just wasn't there. He was playing with a clean sound, as opposed to the studio version, and it's harder to play it clean. I don't think Ieith's fingers are up for a *proper* intro to this one. And no, it's not one that Ronnie or MT could do with the same bite, it would be pointless. I'm fixating on the opening, because the song depends on it. On the other hand, if Keith really worked at the riff and his amp's sound for a week or so, he could probably do it better than the last time around. Hope he's on the case.

Maybe they should just give him the royalties from "Bittersweet Symphony" and call it even...

Great topic, I completely agree, duke, would love to hear it.
They rehearsed it. I believe Mick Taylor was there then.
