It's a good question. Could be any number of reasons... personally I don't think they have the balls or the dedication to learning their back catalogue well enough to bring some out at show time on the arena scale. They need to experiment. Springsteen plays over 3 hours and devotes at least 5 -6 songs of the show to an acoustic delivery ( I assume it is a little less taxing on his body to do so) The Stones could do that and it would be a welcome change.. either lack of imagination, lack of effort, or lack of courage, I think lead the Stones to bring the same basic format to each show of a tour. Of course in a club setting they have played some lesser played tracks but they just don't seem to have the 'nads to do it on the bigger scale..complacency, and expecting sell outs lead to unimaginative staid shows...Quote

Been a stones fan since 64, just wondering why their putting limited effort in selecting tunes from their library.
Take a lesson from paul and delve back into catalog. I'd be bored if I had to play the same stuff over and over again

rambler44Maybe because they didn't tour behind it. I agree. I think it is a great albumQuote

Okay moving along who else would love to hear the stones do something like Too Much BBlood or Pretty Beat Up from Undercover? I just would like them to dig a little deeper like McCartney & Springsteen do
I'd love anything off Undercover.
The last powerful album of new material I think they've done. Too bad it didn't sell that well, otherwise I think we'd get more of it!

is it fair to say the beatles are beating the stones this week?
I am sure that Paul adding five Beatles songs while the Stones are "stealing the headlines" with their 50 and Counting tour is purely coincidental! NOT! And to think that many actually believe there is no legacy war between the Stones and the Beatles for greatest of all time. Paul is just protecting his own - waging the good fight right to the end, on his own. Fortunately for the him there is help on the way in the form of his son James and later with the other sons of the Beatles. Of course none of the parties (Stones or Beatles) will ever admit to it. Good English boys are supposed to be humble as apple pie. May the best band win!
You obviously have no clue about Paul and his setlists the past several years...debuting different songs is normal for him each tour.
What five new Beatles tunes did he add to his set list last tour?
Hey JumpingJack here is McCartney's setlist from 7/16/2011 at Yankee Stadium. As you can see he definitely mixed it up this time around. Unlike a certain band I know...

I am a huge fan of both McCartney's (James and Paul). I have all of Paul's DVD's from the last 10 years or so. I know what he has played and what he is currently playing. I plan on seeing him this summer. I love both the Beatles and the Stones. In fact, the Stones didn't surpass the Beatles (in my mind) until I saw the 2003 HBO concert at Madison Square Garden.

The Stones have been listening. And delivering. More surprises are on the way.
He can't rest. It's not over. The rock historians have yet to have their summit to declare the winner. Perhaps it'll be like electing the pope, white smoke for Beatles, black smoke for The Stones.Quote

Then what's all this about the secret legacy war? The Stones won it 10 years ago. It's over. You may now rest easy in knowing that your work is done.
The ref has blown the whistle. Game over.

The Stones won ME over ten years ago, but I am pretty sure if you assembled a panel of rock historians and writers today they would give the Beatles the nod. Rolling Stone magazine's top 100 artists of all time has the Beatles #1 and the Stones #4 with Bob Dylan and Elvis in between. I think that panel of experts pretty much got it right but that was some time ago and was specifically for "artistry".

I don't mind the "warhorses", they're gonna play them no matter what, but what I don't like is their placement in the setlist. The last 5 numbers are always so predictable. It's like they play 3 quarters of a show and then rest on their laurels for the last remainder. Mix it up! Put them somewhere else!

Mick likes to take the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride of a series of peaks and valleys. The idea is to be peaking at the very end of the show - henceforth, the "powerhouses". Jumpin Jack Flash and Satisfaction are designed to bring the audience to a frenzied grand climax of emotion. Brown Sugar has also been used as a "closer" and despite the fact I never liked it much it easily falls into the category of "powerhouse". These songs involve crowd participation. They work the crowd into a frenzy. If they transition to clubs and theaters after this tour we should then begin to see much more variation. I just hope we get there, because that's when the real fun will begin for hardcore fans.
So the hardcore fans aren't having fun right now? That's confusing. Shouldn't a hardcore fan have fun regardless of the songs or the venue? You'd think a hardcore fan would love the band no matter what. Or is it the casual fans that love them no matter what? But then wouldn't that make them hardcore because they are so devoted to the music and the band? or is total devotion worthy of a softcore fan title???Quote

There's a book called "The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones - Sound Opinions On A Rock 'n' Roll Rivalry" by Jim Derogatis and Greg Kot...a couple of Rock Historians.
The bands are put toe to toe and analyzed. The Stones win, so you can finally relax. Bought a hard cover version on Amazon for $7. A fun read.

They certainly could mix up the warhorses by 2 songs each show. Rotate and keep us guessing a little. Street Fighting Man and Rip This Joint should be considered.

Hardcore fans understand this is their last chance to see the Stones. Hardcore fans certainly don't expect a theater or club tour or theater or club shows. Hardcore fans can read the writing on the wall. They also understand that the Stones' legacy will not really be tarnished by this tour, despite reviews like they have never reeived.

As a "hardcore" fan, I disagree with all of the above.
I don't believe this is the last chance to see the Stones.
They might play and/or tour again in the future, and that may include several club or theater shows...or even an entire tour of theater and club shows.
Even if they don't tour as we have come to know it, they still might play a one-off or a handful of theater or club shows somewhere down the line.
The Stones legacy will be tarnished by this tour if it hasn't been already...the backlash against the hight ticket price's, etc. will not go away that easily.
They are being mocked and ridiculed by thousands (millions?) of fans...hardcore and casual ...and this will be passed down from generation to generation.
They will have to swallow their expensive pride to win back all the fans that they have turned away.
By offering future shows at realistic prices, they may be able to erase some of the negativity, but it might be too little and too late.
This tour has just begun, and it's a fairly long road ahead...the critics are just beginning to sharpen their pencils.
I have seen the writing on the wall.

The ticket issue will have no impact on their legacy. How they perform will. So far they have performed magnificently.
