Sorry to disagree Seitan but I can't quite believe that you have seen many white or black blues singers live in concert.
If Eric Burdon and Tom Waits were on the same concert bill, Burdon would blow Waits away.

Sorry, but I think he has a horrible voice.
I've never gotten the appeal either. Is it because it's so bad that it's good? Is there an inside joke?
Why not - Keith has recently worked with himQuote

did not see that coming.

Burdon is amazing, and his work with War is absolutely brilliant. I also love Winds of Change and the post 1966 Animals, too.

Hanns, truly terrifies me to think what may lurk in your record collection.
Putting Waits in the same category as Bo Diddley and Solomon Burke is sacrilege.
Stones would be better off with no more extraneous guest stars...just my opinion.

Nothing wrong with Tom Jones. He's a great singer. He used to duet with rock and roll artists when he hosted his own show awhile back.

I think you're probably of a different mindset to me, but I do agree that to mention Solomon Burke and Bo Diddley in the same category as TW is sacrilege.
To me, TW is the finest American musician ever based on songwriting. Better than Dylan or anyone else. In terms of performance, I rate him even higher than that, though I know his voice isn't for everyone.
But, in terms of actual musical output, though I love both Bo and Burke, they are in no way comparable to Tom who has been putting out consistently fantastic and sometimes transcendant music since 1973.
