Agreed, it is an iconic image in rock terms...it wouldn't take much for them to do this during happy or Dead Flowers. It's plain ridiculous that they can't, they like to call themselves showmen, performers, give the crowd what it wants!

I believe a new contract will have to be drawn up, and if Mick demands a larger guarantee from promoters for sharing the spotlight with Keith, then this could affect ticket prices--there might be a Sir-charge.

does anyone know the story behind keith's section of their concerts? i believe it's widely known that it's written in the contract that he has to do them and that mick has to be off the stage during, but i don't know any of the history as to why...

When Steve Bing came up with the money for Shine a Light he insisted as a condition that Mick and Keith do that bit together.

It's a massive shock these days if Keith does any backing vocals at all! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him do bvox on Dead Flowers at the PPV show in December.

And there's no way he would have done it for Far Away Eyes on SAL if the cameras weren't rolling.

I would love nothing more than for them to share the mic at Hyde Park but sadly things have come a long way from Stu's van, from traveling in the back as best mates to not being able to stand the sight of each other...not to mention awkward relations with other Stones.

It happened on the 1981 tour and according to Nick Kent's infamous Spin article from 1986 it was indeed written in a contract, he didn't say why, but did say that they coulnd't stand each other during that tour. I'd dug out that article here for those who want some hindsight on WWIII : [www.iorr.org] - the contract business is on page 48 and 49...

For another 2 million they may do that pose for a few seconds.

You'll have to settle for Keith Urban playing the part of Keith Richards, while Keith Richards plays the part of Bill Wyman.
