Great to read. Thanks for posting.

CHARLIE: "And my wife got hit with a stale sandwich. I remember her going mad with that. I don't blame her." At first I thought he meant she ate a stale sandwich and got food poisoning!

I never liked the hippy thing to start with. It's not what I'd like to do for a weekend, I can tell you.

But surely …

[Interrupting] The worst thing playing outdoors is when the wind blows, if you're a drummer, because the cymbals move … it really is hard to play then.

"It's only a short tour. It's only 18 shows" Only 9 confirmed though - does Charlie know something we don't?

Wouldn't be surprised if Charlie was the driving force to get MT back with them.
I know Ronnie is mates with MT so he probably was in favour as well.

Not that sure about Mick and Keef. winking smiley

Charlie and Mick always give the best interviews. With Ronnie and Keith you can mail them in these days. It's a pity because Ronnie used to give a great interview until he started rolling out the cliche show like Keith. Thanks for the link.

Agree with you there. winking smiley

Charlie is a lot less guarded about what he says, although still careful not to cause a riot in the Stones camp.

Mick never gives away anything that he wants to keep within The Stones camp.

CW: Is there any more new music in the offing?
There's nothing yet. I've lost track with the record industry world, I don't get it any more. It's gone beyond me. The last single I thought was very good, but things don't mean anything any more. They're just tacked on the end of a reissue – and that ends up selling more than a new album. It's not like when Sgt Pepper came out and you thought, \"Blimey! We'd better do one better …\" People say you need a new album out when you go on tour. Well, we did that on our last tour, and I don't know if the record sold. I suppose, as Mick says, it gives us something different to play on stage. It's not Brown Sugar again.

Charlie, you're great! The voice of most of us fans.

Steve Wright on Radio 2 said the other day that Charlie inadvertantly gave them a massive exclusive during his interview a couple of weeks ago. He told them that the Stones WERE playing Glastonbury, days before the official announcement. They wanted to announce it as an exclusive on Radio 2, but because no contracts had been signed they couldnt

There's a whole thread on it with videos on IORR (a couple from me).

It was just fantastic by the way.

Charlie spoke to me.. only to ask me to get out the way mind.

He smiled at me later.

It's a myth-busting interview for 2 reasons:

Mick [Jagger] is the show, really. We back him.

A ha! Charlie is Mick's drummer after all--he must have hit Mick that time in Amsterdam for waking him up at 5 a.m.

Who's the driving force in putting the band back on the road?

Well, you wouldn't do it if Mick didn't want to do it. You've got to have Mick and Keith, but the driving force is Mick. If he's enthusiastic, he'll push everyone along. Keith's much more laidback about it.

So much for Keith's self-portrait as the "benevolent tyrant" and his claim all through the 90s that it is his persistence that whips the band into shape and keeps them going out on the road.

But, frankly, I don't understand all the "Charlie is the coolest man in rock n roll" comments. He doesn't like rock n roll, he doesn't listen to The Stones' music all that much, he doesn't want to play long tours, he doesn't even want to play Glastonbury, and if The Stones folded up and retired tomorrow it wouldn't bother him a bit--is his obvious indifference supposed to be mistaken for cool?

Granted, he is without the typical rock star pretense, but he is "the most indifferent man in rock n roll" sounds a bit more like it. "Indifferentest guy on the planet", yeah, that's it! "Most indifferent man in the Rolling Stones". "Indifferent as fVck"!
