BlackHat, I assume you have in mind the sons of Cream will be in a band with the sons of the Beatles.

.

No.

Although I'm not the originator of the Sons of Beatles threads this caught my fancy. But I am genuinely interested to hear if anyone has seen them or plans to do so.

However, one does wonder if the Sons of Cream is the start of a trend.

I can just picture Ginger Baker cutting off his son's inheritance because of this. Oh wait, Ginger's broke...that means he will sue his son for the revenue he makes off the band.smoking smiley

Hey, does Pete Brown have a son? If so, he could write lyrics for the sons of Cream.

I know Godfrey Townsend primarily as the guitarist in the 1996-2001 incarnation of the John Entwistle Band, but Clapton is his true love. Last time I saw him, he was playing with Jack Bruce.

Clapton said (in Rolling Stone Magazine a few years ago) that he broke up Cream after a Rolling Stone Magazine reviewer said a performance of theirs was pretentious, and Clapton felt that assessment was painfully accurate. I wonder what that reviewer thought of Clapton's comment. It made me think of a critic who said he sat with other critics with David Lean just before the release of his film RYAN'S DAUGHTER. And the critics told Lean they thought the movie was crap. And the critic proudly said (to the reader) "And Lean didn't make another movie for 14 years." It was the pride of an untalented guy having (as he saw it) power over a talented guy, when he instead should have felt bad that 14 years were wasted between films. I don't even really like Cream, but even so, that critc's effect annoyed me.

It was released in January, but only in select cities. I'm looking forward to seeing it, but will have to wait for the DVD release on 14 May [by Viva Pictures].

The link below takes you to a clip from the movie, with Eric Clapton talking about the real motivation behind Cream.

Here are a few review snippets:

"Relying on the judgment of many experts... the film makes a persuasive argument that Mr. Baker was the greatest of all rock drummers." -- A.O. Scott, New York Times

"BEWARE OF MR. BAKER is the life story of a man who’s led one hell of a fascinating life. Welcomed early into the fraternity of great jazz and blues drummers, Baker became a superstar while revolutionizing heavy rock music... "-- Noel Murray, A.V. Club

"This doc stays true to his recklessly free spirit.... The movie salutes the rhythms and the wreckage." -- Grade: B+-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"[A] lively portrait of yet another brilliant but wildly self-destructive artist." -- Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times

3 stars out of 4 -- "A fascinating character study of a brilliant and difficult musician... "Washington Post This is the only Jay Bulger video.

This wouldn't be the first time that Malcolm Bruce has cashed in on his dad's catalog. A few years ago, he played with Leslie West and Corky Laing as West, Bruce Jr., and Laing.

One would hope that the kid would try to find his own voice as a musician, but maybe that didn't work out too well.
