Yes, really a pity! One more old favorite gone! I remember seeing TYA in Lund (Sweden) in 1968. Leo Lyons pumping away on his bas and Lee really blowing free!
Had my first date with my wife a little over 42yrs. ago at the Spectrum in Philly. Ten Years After headlining a bill with Procol Harum and Leon Russell..TYA was always a fun band to see! Godspeed Alvin Lee thanks for the great memories.
Very sad news. His "I'm Going Home (... by helicopter)" on the Woodstock 3LP-set turned me on to rock music and I still love this song. Absolutely great! RIP Alvin.
I am stunned and saddened. I have had the "Live at the Fillmore East" cd's in my car the past few weeks, just enjoying the music and remembering when I saw them perform in '69 and '70.
RIP Alvin Lee. You were one of a kind. Peace and comfort to his family.
fleabitmonkey - That Spectrum show with TYA, Procol Harum and Leon Russell was my first concert. I was all of 15 and prayed at the altar of Alvin and that iconic red guitar of his with the peace symbol sticker. Have read a lot about him and he had always kept that "peace and love" ethic throughout his life. He was vehemently anti-war, anti-big business and believed people could live in harmony. Seemed like a righteous, down-to-earth person. RIP, Alvin
Though I never saw him I LOVED Ten Years After. I am deeply saddened. Ten Years After was one of those bands who could have endured for years and years but, alas, for whatever reason it never happened. "A Space In Time" was an absolute masterpiece and is very listenable even today. Some nice psychedelia in there. Go easy Bro.....

How very sad to hear this news. Alvin was a talented guitar player and vocalist. He helped make the band Ten Years After a rocking outfit. I saw them 4-5 times back in the late 60's early 70's and all the concerts were excellent. I Play Ten Years After lp's once in awhile and they still sound great. Alvin left us too early. He wasn't that old.
I'm singing rock and roll music to the world Rock and roll music to the world
Ain't no relation to the United Nations Keep rock and rolling to the world Give peace a chance, get up and dance When I sing rock and roll music to the world
I'm gonna scream, I'm gonna shout Get my emotions and work them all right out I wanna live just like I give No need to fight, wait for tonight When I sing rock and roll music to the world
RIP Alvin. Very sad, indeed. I remember he was in the same city of Kansas when I visited there to see the stones in 1981.
Loved his work with Ten Years After, and his Woodstock appearance stole the show ! One of my favorites was his album with Mylon Lafevre "On The Road to Freedom" with guest appearances from Harrison, Wood, and Fleetwood
