OT: Hugo Chavez is Dead
Posted by: uhbuhgullayew ()
Date: March 6, 2013 00:22

"Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the charismatic leftist who dominated his country with sweeping political change and flamboyant speeches, died Tuesday at age 58, after a long battle with cancer that was shrouded in mystery and prevented him from being inaugurated for a fourth term."

Hugo Chavez bore more than a passing resemblance to....

I'd like to propose we change the title of this thread to 'Hugo?' in keeping with the more streamlined approach we're now taking to thread titles.

Is he still dead?

But unlike Gazza and StonesTod, we don't have to ask where--or at least how--Hugo is, and we can be quite certain that he won't be posting on IORR because of his condition.

By the way, we could streamline thread titles further. You know how the kids always abbreviate words, to save on syllables? Those threads could be retitled to Gaz and Tod. Who knows, it might make IORR a hipper place to hang.

First of all, I'd like it noted that Hugo hasn't posted on IORR in some time.

Beyond that, I'm liking your thinking. The Hugo thread could further be shortened to 'Hug?'

I think monosyllabic is where it's at nowadays, with the kids.

BTW, isn't it ironic that the word monosyllabic is 4 syllables?

Maybe Dennis Rodman will go to his funeral?

Rodman and Penn need to hook up, they'd be the perfect match!

A few years ago Rodman gave a speech at his NBA Hall of Fame induction and went on and on how he should have been a better father, since then he's been in trouble for still not paying child support...now there's your liberal ambassador.

I was living in Venezuela when he won his first election. That was not that long after his first coup attempt where he was jailed. The man was a scam artist fascist. But he did tap into the massive population of poor who are continually marginalized in Venezuelan society. Let's hope now Venezuela can move forward for the good of all.

Addios Fhurer Hugo.

We all should celebrate that this bastard is dead. Cristina Fernander de Kirchner should follow him and meet her husband (Nestor Kirchner). They are a bunch of corrupt people. They suck

I was in Caracas in January and was astounded by the cult of personality about Chavez. Posters and slogans were everywhere, even one of the banks called itself "revolutionary" (their ATM's didn't work though).

Best of lick to VP Nicolas Maduro and the country. May Venezuela continue to thwart 'Western' (US, Big Oil) imperialism and Shock Doctrine-style opportunists, and may the indigenous Indian and black population continue to make small steps of progress. Many families throughout the US's New York and New England region have really appreciated Chavez's heating oil program when their own gov't didn't step to the plate.

Angel? -Hell no. Scoundrel? -Yup. Heck, it seems only scoundrels make it to the top of any governments in today's dog-eat-dog political world. Regardless, some of his well-meant efforts need to be recognized, and the one-sided celebratory vitriol of this thread is childish.

In 2007 Chavez sought to eradicate constitutional term limits, but the voters voted to keep the presidential term limit. Then in 2009 the vote went the other way, so Chavez could now be reelected for the rest of his life. Turns out that wasn't that long....

What a nice topic... eye rolling smiley

Funnily, the more yoou are elected the more "corrupt" you are called by brainwashed Westerners... Kirchner or Chavez are more popular after years in power, than Obama or Cameron after 2 years.

Of course it's Champagne time in Washington which has been trying to get rid of the guy for 15 years as it did in the rest of Latin America for half a century now, causing millions of deaths and maintaining whole nations under corrupt governments.
