OT - Charlie Sexton Appreciation Day
Posted by: Munichhilton ()

How great is Charlie Sexton...highly talented songwriter with a great rock n roll voice and style.

On tour with Bob:

Check out how he pumped an amazing amount of life into the Stones "It's Not Easy"

The studio version has Ron Wood and Keith Richards on it:

Listening to his amazing CD "Charlie Sexton Sextet" you realize his songwriting skill...Bob Dylan is a very welcome paycheck for the man, but he needs to concentrate on a few more releases around here...He's Keith and Woody approved.

His work with Doyle Bramhall II and Double Trouble was unparallelled...

He's done sessions with EVERYBODY!
Oh well just had to get that out there...go find you some Charlie Sexton and give it a spin..start with the Sextet or Arc Angels...

He'll be filming some of his performances this weekend with Bill Carter and Will Sexton for the upcoming film "That's What I'm Doing Here"...

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." Hunter S. Thompson

And don't forget that the women love him....and it has nothing to do with his musical abilities.

I don't see anything particularly interesting about his looks...

I'd feel more free if I were a woman. As it stands now, I feel quite threatened and intimidated.

Would you say that's something you 'appreciate' about Chuck, because its an appreciation day...

His "Under The Wishing Tree" from 1995 is an absolute masterpiece.

I saw him with the Arc Angels many years ago. It was NOT a pretty sight primarily because Charlie was trying to be heard above a too loud and too wasted Doyle Bramall II.

SAW HIM AT AUSTIN CITY LIMITES ONCE. HE WAS GREAT.

He's the only reason to go to a Dylan show anymore.

Will Will, his little bro', ever get an appreciation day? I'd appreciate it if he did.

I attended Dylan's Bad Mergentheim concert last summer. A personal highlight for me was that I took a stroll through the town before the concert. Then I recognized a Texan on the street. Guess who it was. Mr Sexton. We shook hands, I was delighted. The concert was memorable. A great experience

Agreed...from the opening notes of Neighborhood to the final strains of Broken Dream...listening to that CD on the road today inspired this thread

Doyle was a mess and no doubt brought down what could've been a supergroup...he's better now or Clapton wouldn't have him.

Regarding his looks, I think he has a certain charisma. Here's one of the best moments on the Glass Spider DVD.

Great player, no doubt, first saw him "live" with Dylan in 2000/2001 without having heard that he was touring with Bob first; what a great appearance he did with Bob, such a much better guitarsection than what Bob had in the 90s.

Concerning that tour with Bowie in the clip....that's Bowie's worst ever tour (IMO), Glass Spider 1987, so I don't listen a lot to them performances

He still haven't toured with EC or Elvis though

Yeah always loved him. Also as producer (he produced Lucinda's "Essence" e.g.). Good looking guy. I thought the arc Angels had the line-up to go far; too bad about Doyle.
From the get-go - even if young Charlie himself has tried to disavow this song.

I love the producer in the video clip. LOL

There's still time. Maybe he'll jump on stage in Austin with old pal Doyle and Eric. As for Elvis, he's still happy with Jimmy Burton...

I walked out of that show. I had no idea Charlie was in it. I think Peter Frampton was. I was at the opposite end of the field.

Imho his 1st tour of duty as a Dylan sideman (1999-2002) was bloody great!

When I heard he signed for a 2nd tour, I was elated.
Alas he didn't bring much to the current (and imo mediocre) Dylan backing band...

yeah, the general consensus seems to be that the Campbell-Sexton iteration of the Dylan band was his best. Hard to argue with that...and Dylan hadn't settled into the very boring and predictable self he has since become. So sad.

Dammit you two...
Chuck is a musician NOT a magician...there is only so much left to work with in the Dylan camp. It was Chuck who suggested Bob try lemon and hot water to get the voice back but alas...you hear him.

Charlie Sexton is not in Dylan's band anymore. Let us wish him luck!Does anybody know why he left?
